Remembering Toby

  • @eeeefarm
Please accept my deepest condolences - So sorry for your loss. At least you have many happy memories of your basenji. May he rest in peace in doggie heaven.🐺

  • Sorry and you should take a sense of pride for the long happy years you all shared. 17 yrs is incredible!

  • I know the pain you’re going through. Every dog owner does. Putting my Riley down after 15 years was brutal.
They say dogs gives us many of the BEST days of our lives and one of the WORST. My sincere condolences.
    Harriet

  • @jbgabel I am so sorry for your loss. She is one of the oldest Basenjis I have ever heard of. She clearly had a great life with you and please let that be a comfort for you.

    RIP Toby

  • We never get to share our lives long enough with these incredible animals - you have been luckier than most ! 17 is a long long time to have enjoyed her company. I am so sorry -

  • My brother had a brindle Basenji he had to put down @ the age of 17 1/2 who also had dementia - he said the dog would get up @ night and walk into walls and scream. It was very sad and it was a very painful decision for him to let him go. His basenji Kahn was a relative of my Basenji Kembe - they shared the same great- grandmother but his basenji came from California and mine came from Connecticut.

  • So sorry for your loss. We love our furbabies so much and we want them to live forever, but that's just not in the cards. My vet said that the decision we have to make is the gift we give them for all their love and devotion. ❤

  • My gorgeous girl, Roxie is about to be 6 years old Nov 12th. She is my first Basenji and has been a total delight. She seems more human than dog at times. Knowing your furbaby lived to 17 is wonderful and amazing. It gives me hope that my girl will be long lived too. All my previous dogs, huskies, shepards, and terriers lived 13-15 years. No matter the age it hurts to lose them. They own a big chunk of our heart. I can't bear to be alone when they have gone, so I adopt another very soon. Each one has their own special place in our heart. They fill our lives with joy, comfort and occasionally aggravation. They are family.
My prayers are with you. God bless.

  • So very sorry to hear of your loss. So hard to let any of them go but we have to love with open arms and be thankful that they chose to share their brief time with us. Prayers and thoughts to you and your family.

  • Having just lost my basenji boy to cars my heart goes out to you.

Am so very sorry, Alex. My tri boy Mr.T will be 12 in December. We lost our last 2 b's at ages 17 (Jenna went in her sleep), but Zak I had to have PTS as he had dementia really bad. Its never easy loosing these furkids. Kiya will live forever in your heart and memories, never to be forgotten. She is running with the wind and sunning herself in the warmth of the sun. Until you all meet again, someday. HUGS

My brother in law gave me a plaque that says: "It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." I am sorry for your loss.

I am SO sorry to hear of the passing of your Sweet Cosmo. I know the hole she leaves in your heart, but she left knowing that she was loved as much as she could be loved and I am sure she loved you the same! I feel confident that we will be reunited with our dear Basenjis one day. Sending love and prayers for both of you.

@jengosmonkey I’m impressed with the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in reaching out to you and making a donation in memory of Jengo. You definitely have to do a shadow memory box for Jengo - I love the one you did for your previous dog. What a beautiful memorial! 🐾❤️

@gwen I still choke up when I think about my Meg (American Bulldog, lost to cancer in 2013). Just try to shift to happy memories when she comes to your mind. I'm right there with you!
