  • So you have had the dogs for less than a month and you bred either the 7 month old puppy to him or the blind one who may be blind from an inherited condition called Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)? And I am sure that you are aware that the scabies (aka mange) will be transmitted to the puppies, right?

  • is Progressive Retinal Atrophy will be transmitted to the puppies too?

  • @anukotor:

is Progressive Retinal Atrophy will be transmitted to the puppies too?

If PRA is the reason for the female's blindness then yes, the puppies will inherit the genes. If the sire also carries PRA then the whole litter is at risk of eventually becoming blind.

  • I just don't have the word to tell you what I think. Sigh!

  • Are there buyers for the puppies? Are the dam and sire fanconi tested? Sigh.

  • Rarely have I seen such utter total irresponsible behavior all but bragged about. Get the bitch into the vet, SPAY HER THIS WEEK, problem solved.

  • EW I agree spay now, no need for those puppies to happen
    '

  • …I am shocked..is this supposed to be a funny thing?? Take repsonsibility NOW !!

  • I can only think that this is a $$$ making deal for everyone.
That poor bitch. Oh, my how many litters has she had???

  • The Nerve!!! WHY brag about something THAT irresponsible??? Get her spayed NOW! Irresponsible back yard breeders MAKE ME SICK! No need for her to have puppies…and im sure you'll only sell them for a fast buck and then the poor things will possibly become blind since it will be in their genes. I have MUCH more to say but I will not....Ill keep my mouth shut.

  • Maybe we can educate him? I hope so. I feel so darn bad for the dogs and puppies coming. Sigh.

  • @sharronhurlbut:

I agree…maybe we can do something to teach him

  • i will not sell for $$$

  • You shouldnt let them be born at all! They will be inheriting a BUNCH of health issues! If you cared about them you'd have her spayed TOMORROW and not allow them to be born into a world of possible ILLNESS. Anyone you sell a pup to will have a dog who could potentially have LOTS of health problems. Do you want that to happen?

  • i only want to have 1 puppie, then i promise after i have that, i will spay them all

  • Poor dogs! Im outraged at you Anukotor! Allowing dogs with potentially bad health problems to be born!!!!!!!!!!! Why not RESCUE a puppy or young dog?! Why IRRESPONSIBLY BREED 2 Ill dogs?!

  • Obviously you dont care about your dogs or the unborn puppies…because if you did you wouldnt want SICK dogs to be born! You're selfish and only care about what you want! Not about the dogs.

  • why do you want to have puppies when we are all telling the puppies you are trying to have will be riddled with poor health and genetics? Why would you even think to do it knowing these puppies will suffer? Do you understand what you are doing is cruel? ….all because you are determined to have a puppy. Its unbelievable how unintelligent you sound
if you want another puppy then buy one, dont try to breed a dog that you CLEARLY have no experience or common sense to do so

  • Well said Chealsie! This guy is SELFISH!

  • Sorry, but this is not something that any of us can celebrate, congratulate, or be impressed by.

You say you just want one puppy, but what if you don't even have one healthy puppy you can pick from? Are you still going to be committed to that 1 puppy and the puppy's parents for life? And the rest of the puppies?

This is a very bad choice. I would even call it downright stupid. But it can be fixed. Please do as Debra and Lisa recommended, and get her spayed immediately. It will save you a lot of trouble and possible heartache in the future.

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

You had me confused and then I realized you meant the write up on the other rescue (Okapi)… I like less white also. So I had to go look... wow, coloring reminds me of minpins. :) Cute dog though.

I agree with the others that although he seems to have Basenji in him - his head is def. not Basenji. As for the leg I'd have it amputated if it troubles him - He'll cope with 3 legs I'm sure, but certainly consult a specialist first. Please keep us updated.
