I look at each forum, and read the new posts. I also use the search mode if I am looking for a specific topic, which I find helpful .

Oh yay Carole! Did you know she's Zip's breeder? I haven't met her and I'm looking forward to it.
Zipzip went to live at Starfyre Basenjis in CA and that's where she was when she adopted us. I have exchanged e-mails with Carole but haven't met her yet.
Oh also: Carrie's Callie is a light brindle and she is 16 months old, born in the same season as Lola. She's also a smaller female like Lola, they're both about 17 lbs and really do match, it's the cutest thing.
Kelli, what are the conformation entry fees like? Carrie wants to show Callie but we weren't sure where to look for all that kind of stuff.
I would be interested in the dinner but won't know for a while how it fits with everything else that is going on. When you know the specifics, will you please be sure to post it on here…I'm not sure when my specifics will be firmed up. Sorry to be of no help in the planning.
I'm definitely going to the National Specialty. I'm flying (don't have enough vacation time to do the road trip) but Liyah is traveling on the road w/her breeders. I'll be there at least the weekend before it starts and fly home on the Monday after it is over.
Congrats to Carrie on the new girl. How is Booger...and how does he like his new family addition?
Hey mauigirl...what is Zip's registered name?
Hi Mauigirl,
Please email admin@basenjiforums.com with specifics about the poll and anything else you need. We will gladly help as much as we can.
For information about the Nationals and entries or to request a premium list you can find that info at www.basenji.org
Entry fees for conformation are usually 20.00 to 30.00. But since the premium is not out yet, not sure of the cost for sure.

Carrie and her ex/roommate actually parted ways back in March as they reached a point where they could not live together anymore. So Booger is with Andrew and Lola is with Carrie. They have not remained friends following the split so we really have no idea how Booger is doing
He did make a recovery following his nose issue and hopefully it hasn't come up again.
Zip is Possum Creek ZipNto Starfyre, her mom is Eldorado's Rhiannon and dad is Possum Creek Joker's Wild. Rhea had a litter last season so Zip has a bunch of half sibs somewhere….
That sounds like a great idea. As you mentioned, Friday night is the BCOA meeting, Saturday night will be the banquet and auction, and lots of people leave on Sunday after BOB. Soo….probably earlier is better. My guess is that Thursday night will get the most people in already. We will probably be coming in on Monday or Tuesday...Ethan starts kindergarten that week, so we have to leave as late as we possibly can. I am guessing some sort of American variety food would be best....that way people can find something that pleases them.
I'm hoping to be there this year. If I can make it I'll be arriving Wednesday afternoon and leaving Monday morning.

Oh, I'm sorry about Carrie & Andrew…but glad that Booger made a full recovery from his nose issue.
I met a couple of r/w puppies from Rhea's litter in Harrisburg in April, and met Carol as well (she's very sweet & nice)...let's just say those 2 pups were a lot calmer than Liyah, and she was a similar age to them. :D:D
Sounds like a great plan!! I hope you guys have a lot of fun!!
Thanks for the update on Carrie and little Lola and send my congratulation to her for her new B. Callie. Let her know my Katie actually got out her "auntie Carrie" coat the other day and asked for it to be put on.:) That was a first!!
Glad Booger is now doing well. I thought of him last week when my Tyler started to sneeze uncontrollably for about 10 minutes. I flashed back to Boogers thread and panicked, then I relaxed and just did a 24 hr. watch. (Ty's fine, just a drama queen;))
Thanks for the update!!

Yep, that's why I suggested her. I figured you've probably already been in touch with her, and she's done a lot with groups that host events in that area. Hadn't seen her since she moved, but saw her in Cincy though didn't get a chance to talk. I don't think I ever met Zip but I have seen some of her relatives and I do believe I've seen a few pictures or brags from Denise when she was over there.
The show entries are pretty much the same as other shows, usually around $25 ish. The sweeps and other "extra" classes are a bit higher than usual. What kills you is the performance. lol At normal trials and such they're usually cheaper and have multi-dog discounts. But at the national they're usually the same as the show price and for each dog. But you get some lovely prizes and have to help support the event because of the smaller entry size with only one breed. If you're a BCOA member you should be getting a premium list when they come out. If not then like Pat said you can go to the BCOA website and get in touch with someone who can send you one, although they'll probably be a link to them on the site.
I bet Thursday would be the best night to do dinner, as most likely everyone will be there by then. I wouldn't want to do it Fri because of the meeting, or Sat because of the banquet, and of course Sunday people leave.
How late in the day do the activities usually last? Sweepstakes is the major thing on Thursday I believe.
When we did the National in 07, we tried to schedule everything to be done by 4ish in the afternoon to give people time to feed and walk dogs and a little quiet time. But it all depends on the size of the entry and how fast the judge judges. Some are quick, some are very slow…..
And on Thursday, I believe they added another evening event that is NOT sponsored by BCOA. Top 25 Competition that will be for the dogs in the Top AKC 25 Basenjis in wins (number of defeats).
Yeah, they have sweeps and then the Af match, so I would guess things would finish up in late afternoon?
Pat, I remember them posting about the top 25, but just saw that they're doing a top 20 again too on Wed night. Are they really going to do both? Geesh!

I don't think there will be both, Kelli….that seems a little crazy....
My guess is there is some confusion with the schedule. The top 25 is totally separate as far as planning etc...so I am sure it will be rectified soon.
I'm hoping that I can make it to the National and if I can I definately want to meet up with everyone.

There will not be both. There is no top 20, it will be known as the top 25 and again, totally separate from the other National events other then the fact that it will be held during the Nationals in the evening.
Gotcha. I was gonna say… lol
Was the top 20 they had in the past a separate endeavor too? I can't remember.
OKay whew sorry guys I let this go for soooo long. So it sounds like Thursday night is looking good for our forum dinner. Is anyone here staying at the Kentucky Horse Park Campsite? That is our plan. We will be in the BCOA block, close to other people who will also be there for the show.
I have not yet e-mailed Carole about resturants, will get on that pronto. I guess I should tell her that we're going and she'll get to see one of her dogs.
I am also going to ask the lady handling campsite reservations at the Park whether she has any recommendations.
American cuisine sounds good….
Can't wait!!!

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to attend the National after all - due to health issues with my father and Brando broke a leg this past Saturday :(. Please take plenty of pics. This was a great idea - maybe next year.
If I do make any of it, I would fly in briefly when Liyah would be shown (she won't be in Sweeps, so I won't be there Thursday).
Have fun everyone!
We are camping in the KY horsepark but only staying Tues-Thurs, going home thurs am as I have to work Friday. LC is our only event, Trog and Xander will both be entered in AKC, I'm clerking for the ASFA.
