When you are dealing with something that an animal is afraid of, the best approach is to find his "comfort" distance from the thing that scares him. A busy street makes this a bit more difficult, as you have to find a way to give him that "distance". If you have a car, maybe transporting him to a less busy area might make a good start. Perhaps a side street, where he is comfortably away from busy traffic. You could then walk toward the busy street, pausing as soon as you see some sign of anxiety, and retracing your steps just little until he is in his "comfort zone" again. Gradually…...with the use of bribery and rewards......ask him to approach closer to the scary stuff. Liberally reward him for being there, then retreat. The idea is to not force, let him decide when he is ready. If he feels he can retreat at any time, he will have more confidence. This approach may take awhile, but is less likely to create a permanent aversion. (it works well with spooky horses).

Okay, so the first one is Ariel (Avongara Ariel) at six weeks. Then about four months, and then today, almost seven months.
For those that are new to all of this, she is a full African, which means she is descended down from the Basenjis that were imported from Central Africa in 1987-'88. She is Brindle with a saddle and mask, which is why she is so dark, and looks a little "different". She is probably THE most adorable and loveable puppy we have had here. She is always wagging, and wants to be with the people ALL the time. She also is by far the best listener!

Aww - too adorable. Looks like they both like playing ball. Ariel definately has a serious look on her face, even though she's still a puppy. She IS interesting and rare looking that goes along with her ancestors. How cool. Her brindle coat does it for me.

The first one is abby at 3 months that's when I first got her.
The next one is in Feb she was 8 months.
The last two are current just took them 5 minutes ago and she is not quite 13 months. I am kind of concerned about her size though, I weighed her a couple of days ago and she only weighs 17.5 lbs, when I see all the other pics on here everybodies dog looks bigger than her. Even her parents which I have pictures of look bigger. The other dog is Missy our mixed breed, mixed with what we are not sure. Lab and ? look at her tail maybe a little B in there somewhere?
