You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

I am so glad they both returned..scary. I was told a long time ago to make sure you walk you dog past your house in the front so they know/recognize where they live, if they only see a backyard, yet get out on the front, they don't know which house is theirs..makes sense.

@Craigh: We got an extra dose of evil yesterday. Bella spent a couple hours laying on the couch with my wife. When she woke up she decided it was play time. She grabbed the corner of the carpet (where two rooms join) and RIPPED IT UP OFF THE FLOOR!! This was tacked down carpet that she had never messed with before. Don't know where that came from. She had pulled up about a square yard before I caught her. We're thinking about changing her name to DeMonica. Atta "Tri'ing" Basenji!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny funny story - after the fact of course. Although we do occasionally get woodchucks (same as groundhogs for those of you in the eastern states) and lots of other creatures, I haven't seen one in quite awhile here. However, my first basenji caught a young muskrat/marshrat who was stupidly trying to cut through our yard and treated him just like he did his toys - " few quick snaps and the stuffing started flying".

@nomrbddgs: She may always be nasty, or it may be a newcomer thing. I have always had younger B's coming into my home. I've never introduced an older B into my home or an older dog for that matter. Perhaps some of the others have more experience. I know the domesticated dogs (most of them) would get over it, but I'm not sure about a B. I agree…I think it is too soon to tell. She is scared, and hurt, I don't think you can get an accurate assessment at this point. I would keep them separated until she is feeling 100% better, and more comfortable, then go slowly. But let your family know that she may have to go to another home, if the dogs can't work it out.
