Nicole made her own stuffed toy..

    .. by emptying the stuffing of my sofa all over the floor and hiding all her other toys (which she stole out of her toybox) inside the newly created space in the sofa. She sat ever so proudly enjoying her creation when I walked in, and when I yelled at her I got something of a jokey groal back, telling me that "I can make sounds too, but you got to see the humour in this", and then she just jumped around wanting to play, her tail wagging ever so much!

    I guess that's what you get for leaving her alone in the living room for a couple of hours while working on the computer. She doesn't like not having my attention, which she proved again in the evening by destroying a CD case in a million small sharp pieces. She clearly doesn't approve of the increased amount of work I have at the moment :(

    Oh my, we have all been there..when my first b trashed the couch..I put a new slip covre over it..well, when hubby when to sit on his side, he fell through…I should have put a pillow in his spot.
    I will next time.

    My last set of furniture came with a LOT of throw pillows that happened to be backed with the same fabric the furniture was made out of. I think there were about 12 pillows and I have 6 or 8 left. The pillows were disassembled and the fabric was used to patch holes. I've become quite adept at furniture repair…... LOL!!

    My couch has zero pillows and a couch cover!

    I have learned to sew just about anything!!!!!

    It's amazing what a needle and thread can do!!!

    We learned the sofa stuff when Shaye and Gemma tore all the stuffing out of the footrest on one of the recliners in our sectional - it has a permanent throw over it, but even though I think of replacing the whole thing, I don't dare - they sometimes try to dig into anywhere on the sectional to bury stuff they want to hide frm each other. I've just decided not to think about furniture - maybe when they are older and more sedate (ahahahahahahaha)

    I think there are a whole lot of us on here who have the same experiences. After a time you learn to laugh a lot at it. I have done more sewing with the basenjis than I ever had with my children.

    Having just patched up a sofa cushion today I came into the room to find that the zip has been carefully removed. It might be time to throw it away now and start again!!!!!

    @OchiJE: Only problem, is when she's done playing fetch, she likes to tear them to pieces. Or you could just intervene and remove the toy once she is bored with "fetch". My boy was trained this way (I can't take the credit, his breeder had him for his first three years and she teaches all her Basenjis which toys are "chewable" and which are off limits!). He does not destroy toys, even though I do not put them out of reach. I wouldn't expect a confirmed toy destuffer to change his or her ways, but it can be taught if started early. Otherwise, strict supervision can extend the life of toys, and also increase their "worth" as a reward. Restricted access makes them much more attractive! Here is Perry with two of his "original" toys he has had for seven plus years, and a new one recently acquired. [image: 01perrybirthday2013.jpg]

    Kaiser doesn't really have any except his game of steal the humans clothes or whatever mum forgets and leaves in his reach, I know he has something because of the wooden floors as I can hear his prancing around sound, does love his kong ball which has a hole in it which I stuff with freeze dried tripe which when he can't be bothered getting it out plays " here human get it out for me" and bugs us with it until we relent, bugging the cat is a game he likes but doesn't last long as the cat has other ideas.     So far Shaye's favorites are the "no stuffing" animals with squeaky toys at each end - she has a squirrel and a beaver - she runs around squeaking them - strange thing, when her puppy teeth were out and she was getting her big teeth, for a while she had trouble making them squeak and she would toss them in the air and drag them around running full-out, then jump on them and try to get them to squeak again. She also has a set of hard plastic keys on a ring that she enjoys tossing and chasing (and getting us to toss for her of course. Her favorite game - reverse fetch.

    Great advice on the 10,000,000,000 beads – I was careful today to check the toys I bought. Those can't be healthy for the pups - not to mention the house. Fiji is pretty delighted with the stuffed ball I got her. She's spent the last couple of hours alternately tearing it up and licking its wounds. Not quite velociraptor style (that cracked me up):D but the thing will definitely be history by bedtime. Well worth the 99 cent store price and a little clean-up time! Other than this, though, yeah, Fiji just doesn't seem to be into toys. Walks, and running into the other dogs in the neighborhood, are her happiest times. We're going to hook up with another basenji owner next weekend. I have a feeling she's going to love that.

    Mine like the Buster Cube, and similar balls that hold kibble. Also stuffed animals (garage sales, thrift stores), and the anmials that make repeating noises with a squeeze. Nicky likes baby toys, like the ones that you pull a cord and it plays music. They have favotire stuffed toys they have had for years, and others die quickly. Nicky loves to steal my shoes and eat them, my husband bought her a purse of her own at a garage sale, lovely leather. She has been slowly working on it for many months, knows it is HERS. Mine have almost never liked real dog toys. Anne in Tampa

    @YodelDogs: Raw soup bones from the grocery store. I have the "butcher" cut them into 1 1/2 inch lengths so they are too large to crack open and small enough for the dog to get all the marrow out. After they have been licked and chewed up and are smelling "funky", I boil them which sterilizes them. They can then be kept "forever". Mine also lone the hard Nylabones, preferably the dinosaur shaped ones. The poor things get decapitated rather quickly though. :p Too funny! These two things, soup bones and dino bones, are the only things that my two B's LOVE! I would also add the Galileo bone made by Nylabones is super sturdy too. :)
