    Hi there -- not sure if everyone uses this strategy but i soak some kibble in water and mix in a little peanut butter (so that simba isn't getting too much salt) and then stuff the Kong with that before freezing -- lasts longer and still has the same nutrients as his meals. We have the puppy and the classic and I think they're effectively the same. He also LOVES the blue kong squeaky ball. @schmerla

    I see your post was back in Jan. so I hope you have your new basenji settled in. I also adopted a beasenji in Jan. She is my second. I adopted a 5 year old to be with my 3 yr. old, who had had 2 litters in the past and was bred for a 3rd one, but didn’t get pregnant. So the breeder, the same breeder our boy came from, decided to let her go to a forever home. I had to wait quite a while for her to be ready and I felt just like you. I couldn’t wait! I kept texting the breeder questions, request for photos, etc. When we picked her up she seemed comfortable with us right from the start. She has been a wonderful addition to our family, a good match for our 3yr. old boy. He’s a toughie but I think he’s met his match with her. He’s so much happier with his own friend. They love to be together. I hope your new pup is adjusting just as well as mine. Have fun. I think they make us laugh every day. Yes, you have to be on your toes with these guys, you have to make them a big part of your life. They can never just be a fixture. They are work but it’s worth it all. 3 years ago I was a newbie but not anymore, and I’m loving this wild ride.

    @OchiJE: Only problem, is when she's done playing fetch, she likes to tear them to pieces. Or you could just intervene and remove the toy once she is bored with "fetch". My boy was trained this way (I can't take the credit, his breeder had him for his first three years and she teaches all her Basenjis which toys are "chewable" and which are off limits!). He does not destroy toys, even though I do not put them out of reach. I wouldn't expect a confirmed toy destuffer to change his or her ways, but it can be taught if started early. Otherwise, strict supervision can extend the life of toys, and also increase their "worth" as a reward. Restricted access makes them much more attractive! Here is Perry with two of his "original" toys he has had for seven plus years, and a new one recently acquired. [image: 01perrybirthday2013.jpg]

    Kaiser doesn't really have any except his game of steal the humans clothes or whatever mum forgets and leaves in his reach, I know he has something because of the wooden floors as I can hear his prancing around sound, does love his kong ball which has a hole in it which I stuff with freeze dried tripe which when he can't be bothered getting it out plays " here human get it out for me" and bugs us with it until we relent, bugging the cat is a game he likes but doesn't last long as the cat has other ideas.     I think there are a whole lot of us on here who have the same experiences. After a time you learn to laugh a lot at it. I have done more sewing with the basenjis than I ever had with my children. Having just patched up a sofa cushion today I came into the room to find that the zip has been carefully removed. It might be time to throw it away now and start again!!!!!
