Welcome! Congrats on the new adoption. Be careful though, they can get into severe fights. Giving Milka space to avoid him might help. Do you have photos? We love pictures!

It's not hard to downsize photos for online use if you have a decent image manipulation application. Would love to see more!

@DebraDownSouth thank you. I have been in touch with some breeders fpund of BCOA, a couple of them expecting to have puppies in Nov, and ready to be in their new home by Jan next year. But i have not checked rescue basanji and BRATso will definitely explore these sites.

Hi @2baroos , the vet has checked for a UTI and she is healthy. I have tried thunder jackets with her and she tears it off with assistance from her companion. I'm afraid she will certainly remove anything we put on her, especially diapers. We're trying to discourage her from peeing in the crate at all. She used to sleep in a cardboard box that she loved and started to completely destroy it once the anxiety started, now she shreds her bedding and pees on it. I know how this must be really upsetting to her and am trying my best to take care of her.

I cannot thank you enough for the help. My other dog, Herbie, has been very patient with Chester. I hope someday they will be friends...and Chester will understand he is finally safe. Thank you again.

My first B started challenging at 16 months, we neutered him shortly after and it did seem to help a little. However it was only a small part of the solution not the whole solution. The closest thing to a magic solution is the excercise and mental stimulation. Basenjis are one of the most intelligent dogs and need more excercise and stimulation than most. I have generally found males to be much easier to work with and less aggressive than females. Correct discipline, structure, positive reinforcement, patience / stubbornness and enough excercise are the keys. Usually when people have problems with their dogs it is the humans which are the cause, not the dogs.

No state in the US allows a home rabies shot now. Thirty years ago you could, but not now. There are a lot of low cost clinics though.

Okay he's cute, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if a mix... but without a DNA test, no way to really tell. Barking... well basenjis bark, but for most it is a single Boof.. pause... booof. Not the bow wow wow rhythm of other dogs. Oh shedding... they shed but nothing like my other breeds. We get a shed out in early summer. Otherwise, unless sick, not much shedding. I have only had 3 basenjis... they all hated water, one so much that getting her to potty if the ground is we is a serious issue.

@lindy said in Fostering a pup that looks like Basenji: [image: 1499893567189-img_2774.jpg] His height is 20". That's too big, right? Yes, too big. Should be 16 - 17" at the shoulder. Possibly a mix, but only a DNA test will tell you for sure.

@Gigi said in Newbie, I think I have a Basenji Mix?: @eeeefarm She only barks if she actually sees or hears something - and it will be more than one bark, but she is by no means yappy - could be the collie in her :) Then again, when I tell Bailey to get the" red" or "green" ball, is she seeing the same "red" or "green" that I'm seeing, or is it just by word association, who knows? She always gets it right. I agree talking to our dog keeps them engaged with us. Here's a bit of news for you.. we don't see the same red and green as other humans. Not just those with various types of color blindness, but in general. Take one of those color vision tests with someone and you'll see when you rank things, or decide if blue or green, or if you can see the numbers in the pics. Neitz confirmed that dogs actually do see color, but many fewer colors than normal humans do. Instead of seeing the rainbow as violet, blue, blue-green, green, yellow, orange and red, dogs would see it as dark blue, light blue, gray, light yellow, darker yellow (sort of brown), and very dark gray.Oct 20, 2008 Psychology Today"

Make sure you tell breeders that he'll be home. :) List, no list, breeders want the best homes and that certainly would bump you up on my list!

@betsy - I am familiar with the breeders, but none of mine are related. Have a great time with your pup
