Basenji Vs Rhino Beetle

Show Off Your Dog
  • Ive just gotta share!

The other half uploaded a video of Hope to his Youtube account.. She found herself a rhino beetle. Not to worry we put the beetle back in the tree poor beetle would have been exhausted if the OH was at work and she was by herself lol she makes me laugh and i really enjoyed seeing her and it brightened my morning so i thought i would share:

she even does some little barks :)

  • your dog is super cute, but the beetle… yikes! i am so grateful i don't have to live near any of those! i actually jumped and shrieked when hope kicked the beetle and it was soaring! suki looked at me like i was nuts.

  • that bug is huge!!

I almost hold me breath when she kicked the beast haha :D

  • Aweee what a cutie. I agree with Tlish about being grateful to live somewhere free of bugs that big. I seriously believe all Australians are superhumans for not shrieking every time they encounter a bug like that. How on earth did you get it back into the tree??

  • @Mango:

hahaha this post made me laugh :D we get it back to the tree by picking it up and putting it there lol we used to play with them when we were little kids, make them hiss and stick them on each others shirts cos they have good grip. they are tonnes of fun.

they are a hard shelled beetle and they hiss. As you can see she knows to be cautious of the front of it due to the pincer (but its not that harmful if it was to get her). they are pretty hardy little beetles.

  • Wow, that is huge..how funny she is with it.
My kiddos got some nanobugs ( robotic bugs toys) for christmas last year, well last last year..haha, and Otis loved to play with it..he did the exact same thing with his paw on the pretend c o c k roach

  • Great video! Really funny to see how she moves her head :D
I've spend a month in Australia a couple of years ago and if I had to go to the bathroom at night I would run around to put on all the lights first.. Pff.. I hate bugs.. And you've got lots of them…. ;)

  • Really funny video – we have june bugs here (about half the size of yours) and Gossy does the same thing - except they don't have the sharp points.

  • I love the video!

It's so funny to me to see videos of other Basenjis and how their mannerisms are so similar to Paco's. Crazy to think that that kind of thing can be inborn and not learned from other Basenjis!

P.S. Did anybody see the movie "Tangled"? Chris and I think the horse acts like a Basenji often. :P

  • Kipawa and I enjoyed that - he had his head resting on the edge of my laptop and watched the whole thing. So, that bug must own his own 1800 sq. foot home? :)

  • Lovely video and what fun - for Hope that is, not the beetle!

You must be so delighted to get these pictures, Lish.

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

She is really cute though I don't see Basenji. Like Shirley said, only a DNA can tell you much for certain.

You had me confused and then I realized you meant the write up on the other rescue (Okapi)… I like less white also. So I had to go look... wow, coloring reminds me of minpins. :) Cute dog though.

@Lovelace: Really? What ones? I don't know of any that have all the criteria? I've done extensive research on the breeds, and i'm curious I don't recall any. I think Pat means lots of dogs have one or more of these traits. Those three things all together MAY be an indication that the dog does have some basenji in it…but not for sure. Because the dog could be a boxer/husky mix...and end up with right color/markings, pointy ears, a curly tail, and have wrinkle on the forehead (lots of dogs have wrinkles around the face). Rat terriers are notorious for looking like Basenjis...but the shape of their head is slightly different, and the breed was founded using some Basenji way back. Another thing to remember is that after several generations of mixing, all dogs tend to go back to a natural or pariah dog shape...squarish, brown, pointy ears, slightly curled tail...that is just the natural phenotype of "dog"...so a dog might end up looking Basenji-ish even if there is no actual Basenji there. I am not refering specifically to the OP...that dog does look like it might have some Basenji in it..or Rat terrier...but it is REALLY hard to say for sure. It doesn't matter really, because everyone is welcome here...Basenji, mix, B-look alike...welcome...

We got Killian from a breeder in Ohio–-Jim Edgerton. That's where he had gotten our previous male basenji. We took Logan and Jasmine to his place and looked at several 1 year olds and a puppies and Jasmine eliminated the others and we agreed with her pick.

Thank you very much for the info. I will have to try the time out. He was crate trained as far as being house broken, but now when I put brownie in the crate all he does is whine.. I do have 2 older dogs. one that plays with him and the other, well he just growls at brownie. The mother that was there when I got Brownie was a white shepard, maybe that is where the broad nose comes in.
