Blizzard Nemo vs Kaeda the Basenji!

  • It's been a week since Nemo hit, and I took a lot of pics! Here are just a few. The little Shorkie is named Link. The snow was so deep, I was able to just keep her loose outside since she wouldn't be able to go far. She LOVED it all!

  • Love it!! Oakley and I are in MA and my boss is out of Meriden..funny! I took lots of pics but I can't post them from my phone to here so I have to use my laptop which is inconvenient. Looks like they had fun, I know Oakley did :)

  • Love the little coat! Got a green one similar for my boy- can't imagine Uzie doing that snow thing! It goes below 40 degreesF, he is out-duty done-goes running back home up the steps (noted I said back home because I am a trooper mom and go out with him!) here they are after a cold morning out:

Wow, it's a small world, huh? :D I hope you can post the pics soon!

I feel like Kaeda doesn't mind the cold because that's all she's really known. She loves the snow, and keeps wanting to go out! lol

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

No idea, sometimes with mixes it's so hard to tell what the parentage is. I do think that your dog's head is a bit more refined than many of the pit mixes i've seen.

I agree with the others that although he seems to have Basenji in him - his head is def. not Basenji. As for the leg I'd have it amputated if it troubles him - He'll cope with 3 legs I'm sure, but certainly consult a specialist first. Please keep us updated.

@wizard: Saba - you don't really want this kind of snowfall - it's hard work shovelling pathways for the dog. It didn't drift in my yard like Nemo's - just covered everything about 18 inches minimum and 4 feet in other places - no bare spots to go pee/poop. And you have make sure the dog can't just walk up and over the snow piles and get out of the yard. It is really pretty though. The funny thing with the cold - I open the back door for Gossy to go do her business and she knows its really really cold and comes running back in as soon as she's finished. But she can't get it in her head that the cold is everywhere not just in the back yard. She wants to go for a walk and I get her all fixed up with her booties and jacket and me with all my gear and we leave the house by another door. Then we get maybe 20 feet down the driveway and the cold sinks in and she turns around. Yeah, I know, I think as a HUGE lover of all things snowy, I just felt soooo envious ;)…

Thank you very much for the info. I will have to try the time out. He was crate trained as far as being house broken, but now when I put brownie in the crate all he does is whine.. I do have 2 older dogs. one that plays with him and the other, well he just growls at brownie. The mother that was there when I got Brownie was a white shepard, maybe that is where the broad nose comes in.
