We have been living in our new place for less than a week, and Cody and Ren have had two fights, both resulting in Ren getting superficial bites/scratches.
Cody is a submissive B and seems to know his place, but he's still sensitive about his hind legs after an attack by a neighborhood dog a few months ago. Both of the fights were over Cody's toys, and the second time it seemed like they were just playing, but then it rapidly escalated. Cody grabbed his toy, then Ren snapped at Cody's hind leg, and Cody grabbed at Ren's head just hard enough to break skin.
Since the first fight, I had been careful to keep them separated or supervised. If I can't supervise them, I put Cody in his crate. When I have to be in my room, Cody is in there with me and the door is closed. This second incident happened while they were supervised, and the switch from playing to fighting happened very fast.
This just can't keep happening. It doesn't seem fair to keep Cody crated all the time. Cody doesn't have any problems with Stimpy (the dachshund); they play and cuddle all day when I let them. Ren is food/treat/toy aggressive. Cody is so much bigger than Ren I'm afraid he will really hurt him.
Is there anything else I can do? Will they ever get along? I'm at my wit's end. I may have to move.
