Baron update

  • Great news! Hope the wound heals soon.

  • That's wonderful news! I'm so happy for you! And I agree with Jason: Kudos to your vet!

  • That is good news. I hope Baron is feeling well soon. I know you are giving extra TLC!!

  • I'm so glad to read this.

  • Great to hear Robyn, hugs to Baron!

  • Thanks for the update, Robyn. Baron has been such a great boy through all of this… and of course it helps that he has such a great mommy!!!:D Kudos to the Vet., too... sounds like she is wonderful!

  • Dr. Watkins removed the bandaging today and we were amazed at how well the wound has healed! The gap has closed up and there is only a quarter-sized area that is still healing. Baron will not have to be bandaged now though he will have to wear the cone collar a while longer so he doesn't lick the area. I am so happy he is healing! Thank you everyone for your prayers and positive vibes! They seem to be working!

  • thanks for sharing the good news!

  • That looks great! Kudos to your great vet, and your tender loving care.

I'll keep you and Baron in my thoughts.

  • Wonderful news, congrats!!!

  • Wow…he looks like he is healing really well now. :D Yay Baron!!

I know this is really far stretch and a late post but do some research on
Manuka Honey +16( or higher ) We live on it here in our house as far as to prevent colds and such, BUT it also has tremendous healing powers for skin wounds. There are a lot of people ot there that have had amazing results with it when cancerous lumps have been removed, and it is natural. It might be a mess but if Baron is still wearing his cone then at least he might not be licking it of.
Just wanted to give you some ideas as to what might work on healing it faster.

  • Dr. Watkins was so impressed with how well the wound looked yesterday that the cone collar is officially off now! Baron is so happy to be rid of that thing and so am I. That was his last check up. Thank you to everyone for your positive vibes, prayers, and well wishes.

Basenjimamma, thank you for the tip. I will keep this in mind for any future injuries and wounds. :)

Congratulations, that is great! Ayo sounds like he's doing well. Keep the updates coming. It's great that he's gaining weight. We would love to see some pics of Ayo with some meat on his bones.

@tanza: Not to put any pressure on you or the Vet.. but to me… blood work is one of the most important tools.... and I am surprised that at least even with an appointment next week ... that they didn't take blood while he was there.... If it was me... and I am a "freak" about doing blood panels.. I would have insisted on at least that..... Thanks for letting me know. As Booger & Lola are my first "grown up" dogs (my parents took care of sick dogs growing up & we never had many issues until 1 got cancer), I really honestly don't know all the things I should be looking for or asking about. I will definitely call & ask about that. Booger does seem a LOT better today than he did yesterday, which is good. I don't take this as much of a sign of anything, but it at least makes me feel better knowing he isn't so miserable. He's a lot perkier & more playful. He gave us some playful baroos earlier, too, which is a rare treat!

Hi Leel, I know this is a very old post but I just wanted to see if you were still around and had an update on results of the neuro? Our basenji cross, Indy, started doing teeth chattering out of the blue this morning after every yawn. She is female, C. 1 year (we're not sure exactly as she was a street dog). We took her to the vet this morning who also didn't have an answer but doesn't think it's a seizure because all other responses seem fine but I'm freaking out a little. The vet gave us some pain killers to try in case it is something in her mouth but she has had no trouble eating and chewing on bones so this doesn't seem likely. She also didn't seem to be under any undue stress, just tired from sleep in the morning so yawning a lot. Having said this she seemed mopey and didn't come on out bed like normal in the morning so not sure if this points to it being emotional... She seems to have gotten better throughout the day and didn't do it after yawning just now but not sure if this is related to what the vet gave her. I'm very worried as some posts have been talking about it being normal (mostly in males) but in some posts it has been a neurological disorder which has gotten worse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Susie
