Basenji TV

Basenji Talk
  • My male will watch TV all the time.

THis is am episode of Americas Funniest Animals I think.

This is the Breed All About it special on Basenjis from Animal Planet.

  • HAHA…..now THAT'S watching tv!!

Chey never watches. Apache will every once in a while if I have on NG or AP and the animals on the screen are making alot of noise.

  • Last night Homeward Bound was on Animal Planet, and Sahara actually watched like for 10-15 minutes at a time. It was so funny, she got up a couple of times and went to the screen, one time I was in the recliner laying back and Sahara jumped up, turned around and sat on the foot piece and watched the movie, it was too cute. Homeward Bound is the movie with the 2 dogs and a cat named Sassy that get lost and find themselves back home. I love this movie, and Eight Below, Sahara loves that movie. She watches the sleigh dogs and watches them for the longest time when they are barking. I leave Animal Planet on now when I leave the house for long periods of time. I have a Dogsitting DVD and it shows all kinds of animals and sounds to attract the dog's attention. Sahara likes this too, but not as much as the movies.

  • That is too cute… the only time mine would really go nuts at the TV was when I played the videos of the puppies that we have raised... My poor OJ was sure that some wild, teeth like razor blades creature was going to come bounding out of the TV after him... gggg. He would check every place, over, under, around, for those little baby monsters!

  • Mine like the watch the Basenji breed all about it. Especially the lure coursing part. I think they hear the whir of the line, and 'tally-ho'! Also Bella will watch dog shows???

  • Baroo will sometimes watch tv if he hears a dog barking, other than that he isn't too interested. We discovered that he doesn't like us watching it when he wants attention though. One night dh and I were sat down to eat dinner and watch tv. Baroo is a horrible begger, and when we wouldn't even pay attention to him, no less give him food, he ran and jumped at the tv and hit the power button! I swear he knew exactly what he was doing! That got our attention!

  • I think I said this in another thread, the only tv Ruby will watch is when I watch a Formula 1 race…you can tell that she is actually watching the cars because her head moves as they move :D :D :D . My father thinks it is so funny because other than F1 she doesn't even act like she knows tv is on.

Good girl, not sure which is her favourite team though! ;)

  • My previous beastie never watched TV but EL D sure likes to watch animals (any mammal or bird), especially if they are making noises. He never goes up to the TV, just sits on the couch watching with his ears cocked. He also pays attention when I play a CD by John Huling called Desert Plateaus – it has coyotes and birds in the background and it really gets EL D's attention.
LeeL's pictures of the dogs watching are precious!

  • Last night there was a show about parrots in Australia. EL D just sat there and cocked his head this way and that. And everytime they had lots of birds making noise he really perked up. Funny because he generally ignores birds in the backyard.

  • Goober doesn't really watch tv, but he LOVES to stand in front of the cable box when i want to change the channel.

  • LOL..That could be my Gibby! He ADORES Animal Planet. When we get up in the morning I put it on until I am ready to go out for our walk and he has even picked up his food bowl and moved it in the LR in front of the TV (yes–he has seen me dine in front of the TV and mimics me). I won't even discuss the $$ spent on remotes or the fact the TV in my bedroom has been changed to "Spanish lingo" audio because I swear he is trying to change stations. B's are so smart!

  • LAs tnight during the Superbowl there was an ad from Budweiser that had a Dalmatian running and barking as well as a Clydesdale. Tigger (the dog in the pictures I poted earlier) jumped up from a dead sleep and flew to teh TV to see what was going on and then ran around behind it to see where the animals went.

  • Too funny :D

  • I was watching a show about a gentleman in Africa who trained lions and wild animals including Hyenas (these were rescues I believe) and the Girls-Damisi and Sugar-LOVED the Hyenas!

  • Goober yodels when he hear the poor abused puppies cry on that K9 cops show.

  • I'm trying to verify if the owner of the basenji who got his pups paws tattoo on LA Ink air yet? I was told that it did on 2/5/08. I missed it.

Anyone know or watched the show?

This is one of the owners who meets up with the Laurel Canyon Basenji Dog Group.

Hey that was ME and my dog Tyler on LA ink. It aired the 5th, and is supposed to air again Feb 26 at 9pm on TLC. It was actually a mark on his back, not his paw. I posted some pics in this thread.

I had never seen a basenji on TV, except for my own.

  • We just got a new TV (also, we moved since the other pictures were taken) and were playing Toy Story 2 the other night. Tigger went nuts.

Luckily, he cannot reach the screen of the new TV due to the piece of furniture below it.

Jack LOOOVES to sit on the foot piece of our recliner and watch TV with me. If I don't have the foot piece out, and he wants to sit there, he will paw at it. He sometimes knocks my legs off, so he can have the whole thing to himself.

  • I haven't noticed Zaire watching TV yet, though she is still too young to have much of an attention span. Charlie watches TV all the time if he is alone (I have set up video to see what he does when I am at work). I do leave animal planet on for them when I leave as long as their won't be any of the rescue shows on while I am gone (I don't want to scare either of the kids with sick hurt dogs on TV).

Looks can be so deceiving- here is an article of a woman who adopted a rescue dog in N.J. Dog looks like a basenji - even her vet thought it might be basenji. She did an Embark DNA test - no basenji. Turned out the dog was a mixture of Mountain Cur, Rat Terrier, Beagle, and Boston Terrier. link text

Last I heard, the Breed Club secretaries had more people waiting or wanting pups than were available . You could get on a list for a Basenji next winter but I very much doubt you will find one still unsold. Go to the website of the BCGB, or the Northern Basenji Society as you are in the North and you will find email addresses of the secretaries. They will put you in touch with breeders who may be planning a litter for puppies to become ready to leave the nest in about a year's time. Its a long wait I know, but you have most probably missed the boat for now. You are welcome to post me privately. Good luck!

@Thana: she does have basenji characteristics then apart from her colours and looks.- i also think she must have some basenji blood! She is lovely and lucky no matter what! adorable little face:))))) Having read about the characteristics I think she does. The lady with the basenji that we met also commented on some of the things she was doing as "very basenji" (eg. standing on her back legs so she could see what was going on). Has a lovely wrinkly forehead too. Got very frustrated with me earlier and did her funny bark, more of a wierd howl really. She is def one of a kind. Its a shame we have to have her spayed (not that I could ever justify letting her have a litter).

I have found that if I take my B to doggie daycare (even if it's only for half a day), she is ehausted when I bring her home. She will let me do the dishes without any basenji help! She also tends to treat our doggie friends a little nicer when they come around. Having a worn out basenji is deifinitely worth the $15!!

OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
