@lra:
Is this the Helena that is getting Cassie?
Yes that's me and Benkura is Victoria. We are getting more and more excited as the time moves on.
Oh how hard it is on both you and Jasmine. Sorry I haven't had this problem with my two B-mixes. Have you tried to get another opinion by another vet? Just a thought . . . Healthy wishes and healing vibes for Jasmine.
Oh boy, at least your vet seems to be on top of things. Hopefully she'll rally soon. Please keep us posted.
Poor little Jasmine. Do the antibiotics seem to be working? Do they ever do IV antibiotics for a situation like that? Maybe she needs an extra "boost" to get her through this. Hope she's better soon. Pls keep us posted. And welcome to the forum. This is a great place for support and information. There are lots of experienced B parents here.
Thank You all for your support. I'm really stressed at this point, it helps to have kindness around.

Welcome! i am sorry your girl is sick hug that she gets better soon
I have two B's. Jasmine, who is 12, and Apollo is 8. Jasmine is ill with pneumonia. She has been on and off antibiotics for about 6 weeks…..the cough is getting worse. She's had x-rays, and a tracheal wash to detect what the problem is. The vet said she has a bacterial strep, and something called narcicia bacteria. Has anyone else encountered any thing like this? She is eating and exercising in a normal way. Thank You, Pollyjas
Should she be exercising? Doesn't that make the cough worse? Have they put her on any cough suppressent? Older dogs do have tracheal collaspe, it is quite common, could that be part of the problem? My Maggii is 16 and has had a cough for about two years now (among so other problems) but have her on Hycodan and/or Torbutrol in a very small dose. It really helps, but you do have to watch the dose as it does cause sedation.
My Topper is almost 12. When he was 2, he had really bad pneumonia, tried several different antibiotics and had a bronchoscopy with cultures to identify tha bacteria. Then another 6 weeks of medictions. Several times over the next 3 or 4 years he had it at least once a year, we spent 2 years giving antibiotics one week out of 4, then he went several years wtih no problem. A couple of years ago he had pneumonia again, then this year he started wheezing and coughing and we were back for another bronchoscopy. No pneumonia, but chronic asthma for which he gets a bronchodilator twice a day. He coughs at bedtime, in the morning, and with exertion, but he is living a good life and able to run a bit at the park, though one lap and he is done. The specialist indicated that this is not all that rare a condition for dogs and cats.
But that first pneumonia was hard to cure, I'm still not sure we really got rid of it even after 6 weeks of the correct antibiotic. Hang in there! I think our heat and humidity encourage bacterial growth and make it harder for our guys, I know Topper breathes better when it is cool, the heat this summer was very hard on him.
Good luck with your girl, hang in there !

Is there a pneumonia vaccine for dogs? Isn't there one for humans? Or some kind of vaccine that helps prevent pneumonia? I've never had a dog with it, but I do have a friend whose son when he was young came down with it every year for a few years, and I think they gave him some kind of vaccine. Would that help?
Well there is a vaccine sort of for humans…. and it lasts 10yrs... for pneumonia.. I know, I have had one....
