Gee - here I thought EL D was on the chunky side - he's only 17 at the shoulder and weighs a mere 23-24 lbs.

maybe length from chest to tail has something to do with some dogs of fairly equal height and weight appearing to be different "sizes".
There are those that are longer and leaner looking, and those that are more square and so look "chunkier". -
My Ringo weighed in at 30 lbs when he was about 4 years old. And that's solid muscle and no fat because we were going on long daily hikes up hills and beaches at the time.

I just found this site. I saw this thread and had to post. My 6 yr old Cody is 19 1/2 inches tall and 36lbs. All muscle.
I'm not sure how to get a pic on the thread. If anyone can tell me I will upload one.

My Ed is tall, and weighs 32 lbs. He is not, however, all muscle. Not really fat, he just doesn't have a waist!

If you have digital pictures you can open a free account at Photobucket.com and upload them as JPEG's.
If you do not have a digital camera you can get your pictures on a photo CD and upload them from that.

If you mean my Max, he looks kinda tan colored in the summer, but he is red.
This is the time of year I think they're coats look the best. -

I thought Jack was small for a b, but it sounds like he is about average- 24 pounds, and very muscular and trim- you can see his ribs when he moves. I recently took him to a new vet who asked how much I feed- about 3/4 c. to 1 cup twice a day, and she said wow- that is a lot for a 24 lb. dog. Which I guess it is, but Jack doesn't usually eat the whole bowl. He stops when he doesn't feel like eating anymore. Plus he gets a lot of exercise running from the couch to the bed and back.

What is the standard for a female. Marley is 9 days shy of 6 mo's and weighed 18.8 lbs at the vet yesterday. I will measure her height tonight and post a new pic.

Does anybody know what the average weight for a four month old B is? My boy, Otis went to the vet yesterday, just shy one week from 4 months old and he weighed a whooping 18.9lbs. huge right? I just want to make sure he is not too big. He is eating Royal Canine puppy32 (?) right now, but I am contemplating putting all my dogs back on the Barf diet. I used to keep my other dogs on Barf but stopped once I was pregnant, I didn't want to handle raw meat at the timeā¦since then those two dogs have passed on ( of old age), but while the dogs were on that diet they felt and looked like a million bucks. No more allergies, no more weight problem and so on. Those dogs were not B's they were a Westie and a Lab/Chow/Dalmation mutt. Give me some ideas as to what you think...pretty please

I don't know, 18.5 at 3.75 weeks seems a little big to meā¦ :D:D:D But what did your vet say about his weight? It is hard to judge without a pic...maybe post one showing him from the side so that others can give you an idea.
W/out a pic...just as a comparison, when my b pup Liyah was 4 weeks, she weighed 10.9...I could feel her ribs, I could see a bit of tuck-up but she didn't look underweight. The vet thought her weight was good as did her breeder. I will say that she is super active and eats like a horse, so I think she has a high metabolism - plus I have 2 adult bs that run her like she is an adult. :D:D
I can't remember who you said his breeder was or who her parents are, but are Otis's other siblings similar in size and are his parents larger...maybe that is part of it...might it run in his line?
-
Your dogs both look like their weight is fine - neither looks overweight, so they are nice BIG dogs for the breed - great picture
-
At four months Shaye weight 15.2. She is two weeks past that now and weighs 16.8. She's not fat anyplace, you can see her ribs when she runs - getting more muscular in her haunches and shoulders. It probably depends on the height, length, etc. - dogs grow at different ratesā¦

Ok so I had a semi Ok picture from the side, he is not standing normal though so it still might not be a good pic to use, but here it is anyway. I aslo want to mention he measures right at 15" at his shoulders
As far as his littermates, they were all 4 boys and they were larger than the breeders other pups, so his litter ran large, the mother is 22lbs and the father right at 25lbs. The other litters had more pups in it and some were girls as well. My vet thinks he will be about 35lbs (yikes) once fully grown. I hope he is wrong, not because I mind a big dog, but because I want him to follow breed normā¦whatever that means..LOL. I guess we have to wait and see. As far as running them at this age, can I? I mean, play and maybe go for longer walks, or should I wait for him to get older? I realize he is still a baby. Thanks, Basenjimamma
