    Duke, a little 12 pound Basenji mix, tends to get carsick. I've never had a dog that gets carsick once it's passed puppyhood, and Duke is 2 years old so this isn't a puppy thing. I guess Duke has been given vet prescribed pills (I don't know what) yet he still barfs. My suggestion was to take him for increasingly longer car rides and he'll eventually quit getting sick. But does anyone have another idea?

    My parents had a B that got carsick. The vet prescribed Dramamine, and that took care of the carsickness for trips. Sometimes, it helps to keep them in the front seat or in a plastic crate where they can't see movement from the side windows. And they usually get more air in the front, and that can help with the queasiness.

    Hope Duke gets past it! How are his ears? Sometimes, ear infections or inner ear problems can cause motion sickness or make it worse.

    We had one that we took to Texas from Ontario with us one time. We actually built a frame so that his crate would sit up higher and he could see out the windows. That worked. I've also heard ginger snap cookies.

    My first girl got carsick. I used Dramamine (Gravol) for her. Luckily she outgrew the problem, because every time I had to pill her the neighbours thought I was killing her. She screamed her head off! (and of course spit out the pill). She did best riding loose in the back seat. That was in the '60s, and we didn't worry about such things…...

    I saw that you have a sewing machine – its not hard to make your own coat. I made one for my previous beasties with fleece and wool. I made it with a high colar (for the backside of the neck) and an indentation for the tail and a big belly and chest band (I used snaps at first but then switched to velcro). It worked pretty good for our single digit temps (and the occasional below zero walks to the corner). My current beastie refuses to go out the door with a coat on, however. When the outside temps are below 10F she won't stay outside any longer than necessary to go potty - the squirrels can run around all they want then! With respect to booties, mine will at least tolerate them when we go for walks but it's more for the road salt. However, the good pair I bought this year leak somehow (maybe through the stitching?) and she doesn't like them with they get wet inside. Nevertheless be sure you get the best you can find.

    It's most likely a yeast infection. They get it in the ears quite often. Buddy has a yeast infection right now on his stomach.

    Our red girl dog has the same problem. Freaks out when you touch her ears with a swab, but loves the inside of her ears rubbed when petting her. You know the two handed ear & cheek rub. That gave me an idea!. I found some real soft white - tight gardening gloves (unused), gave her an ear massage and cleaned her ears out. it worked well. I was extra careful not to push the dirt down her ears, but did kind of a wiping motion out and away from her inner ears. She loved it!

    My C3 has the same itchy skin problems too mostly due to the 1001 allergies he has…but I use the Aveeno Oatmeal Ointment to help calm the itch & I also put Brewers Yeast tablets & Fish Oil tablets into his food to help keep his skin & coat healthy. Sometimes we need to bathe regularly (like once a week :eek:) in the Aveeno oatmeal shampoo to help as well. Good luck!

    An update on Ben's condition. He had his teeth cleaned this morning and the vet had to remove several teeth. A large tooth in the back of the mouth had a cavity that went all the way to the root. He never lost his appetite during the whole ordeal or seemed to have any sensetivity of his mouth. I hope this is the end of the suffering he was going through. He was a rescue dog so we don't have the previous owners records as to dental care he had in the past. You can be sure he will be monitored from here on out for any sign of tooth decay or tarter build up. Thanks to everyone who replyed to my inquiry on Basenji health.
