Kipawa's latest adventures

  • The weather has not cooperated much, but every time we get decent weather, Kipawa and family go check out various dog parks in our area. We are blessed with many of them. Here are some photos from one of the latest adventures. You'll note that Kipawa is not afraid of mud! And what strange birds we saw at the end of the walk!

  • What a handsome boy! And so big already! They loose their puppy look way to fast..

Looks like Kipawa has lots of fun on his adventures :)

  • Yes, Janneke. 7 months old and 24 lbs. of muscle. They do grow so fast - he's my 'little man' now, not my 'little boy'!

  • He's even bigger than Tillo! He's definitely a man now!

btw: He has a gorgeous face :)

  • Looks like fun! He really is a darling little boy, oops, dog-man, no puppy fat either, he looks nice and fit.

  • Great pictures, he really is a handsome chap, he looks like he's having fun.

  • Houston

Lovely pictures..of a lovely young man… his face is stunning..so intense in his gaze.

  • Oh, Fran, doesn't he just make you happy when you are with him! I know I enjoy my 3 b's so much. Can't wait to see him and you again in Aug.

  • What a pretty boy!!!

    He is growing too fast!

    And those birds… huh?????
    (it's a joke right? :D)

  • He looks wonderful and happy!!!

  • Hello Fran! Kipawa is looking amazing. He was very lucky to find you…or you were lucky to find him...or you both were lucky to find each other. Ha Ha! Either way you three are a happy family. Eventually I will have to post some new pics of his sis...she has started to look less skinny but she will obviously never be a real big girl (okay with us!). BTW, obedience class is going okay...baby steps...very small and slow baby steps:)

Oh yes, Sharron. When I am walking him, I must look like a total nut-bar, because I have this perma-grin/smile on my face. I also talk to him all the time on walks. So one of these days I won't be surprised if I am met by men in green suits holding a white jacket for me. :o

Definitely, but it was so funny to come across them. I just kept on wondering who went through all the effort to put them there. On the other hand, they serve as a land mark at those park trails, because you can easily get twisted around and forget where you are.

Walter, we would LOVE to see some pics of Scarlett. Little Miss 'Skah-lett'. Not a problem that she will be smaller because you can pick her up easier! :) My boy feels like a ton of bricks when I pick him up. Regarding classes, small and slow baby steps are acceptable progress. So don't worry. Kipawa still needs more work on being in control on the leash. We want to take him to the rehab hospital Darrel mentors at, but can't quite do it yet - he would be pulling me all over the slick floors. I may just try an Easy Walk harness.

He is great off leash (in safe off leash parks), always comes back when called. But the tugging gets a little tiring sometimes. I know he is testing me. He'd love to be boss, but that isn't going to happen!

  • I work in a doctor's office and Scarlett comes with me on occasion…the patients love her, I'm sure Kipawa will be a hit as well. Scarlett tugs on the leash a bit too but her heeling is getting better. But when she tugs it is nothing compared to Mr. Tank:)

  • He is looking so grown up! And handsome, too!

  • "Pull" you off your feet, isn't that part of a Basenjis middle name?

  • He's growing from a lovely puppy into a very handsome yung man. A credit to you Fran!

@TMartin: Looks like he did wonderful! In Loki's puppy class we did the same exercise, with the peanut, regular exercise balls, and barrels placed on their side and with something underneath while upright to make it wobbly. One of the pics I posted of Loki months ago is of him on the peanut. A regular exercise ball is more challenging as you first need to make sure you have a good hold on it and then gradually loosen your hold so it wobbles however much the dog can handle at the time. And of course it is far more unstable than the peanut. I haven't ordered the peanut yet, but now that you are talking about the regular exercise ball, I might go for that instead, because I can use it to stretch out my lower back.

My golden retriever does take off after the deers but he seems to be more startled by them, not saying he won't. Never say Never. However, as with Levi he is also showing great promise with the whistle recall as well. We practice it all the time on the trail, and seems to respond about 95% of the time. I am aware of the possibly of him chasing something, but I am also fairly sure he would recall with the whistle once done chasing as my golden retriever does. We also don't have typically anything dangerous out in these woods. This is all property of William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va and just contains hiking/biking and jogging trails. The only thing we have here are deer and squirrels, we do have racoon and skunks and opossums but are seen very rarely though I do watch out for possible situations. Thanks you for the advice though, it's always welcome. But just thought I would show off some pictures of our happy adventures! Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk

@Nemo: He's a Lukuru but I don't know what he registered name is. I love his sister Peggy. If I am not mistaken, Dexter is Lukuru Constellation Orion.

Usually we put presents under the tree, but I just don't dare since getting the B girls! Presents all hide in closets until it's actually time for them to be opened. We always wrap special treats for the girls and the cat as well, so they can tear something open to get to the goodies. Then the treats keep them busy while everyone else is unwrapping. The great-grandkids have been warned NOT to leave their stuff on the floor or where they look like dog toys on tables, etc.
