  • Oh, Fran, doesn't he just make you happy when you are with him! I know I enjoy my 3 b's so much. Can't wait to see him and you again in Aug.

  • What a pretty boy!!!

    He is growing too fast!

    And those birds… huh?????
    (it's a joke right? :D)

  • He looks wonderful and happy!!!

  • Hello Fran! Kipawa is looking amazing. He was very lucky to find you…or you were lucky to find him...or you both were lucky to find each other. Ha Ha! Either way you three are a happy family. Eventually I will have to post some new pics of his sis...she has started to look less skinny but she will obviously never be a real big girl (okay with us!). BTW, obedience class is going okay...baby steps...very small and slow baby steps:)

Oh yes, Sharron. When I am walking him, I must look like a total nut-bar, because I have this perma-grin/smile on my face. I also talk to him all the time on walks. So one of these days I won't be surprised if I am met by men in green suits holding a white jacket for me. :o

Definitely, but it was so funny to come across them. I just kept on wondering who went through all the effort to put them there. On the other hand, they serve as a land mark at those park trails, because you can easily get twisted around and forget where you are.

Walter, we would LOVE to see some pics of Scarlett. Little Miss 'Skah-lett'. Not a problem that she will be smaller because you can pick her up easier! :) My boy feels like a ton of bricks when I pick him up. Regarding classes, small and slow baby steps are acceptable progress. So don't worry. Kipawa still needs more work on being in control on the leash. We want to take him to the rehab hospital Darrel mentors at, but can't quite do it yet - he would be pulling me all over the slick floors. I may just try an Easy Walk harness.

He is great off leash (in safe off leash parks), always comes back when called. But the tugging gets a little tiring sometimes. I know he is testing me. He'd love to be boss, but that isn't going to happen!

  • I work in a doctor's office and Scarlett comes with me on occasion…the patients love her, I'm sure Kipawa will be a hit as well. Scarlett tugs on the leash a bit too but her heeling is getting better. But when she tugs it is nothing compared to Mr. Tank:)

  • He is looking so grown up! And handsome, too!

  • "Pull" you off your feet, isn't that part of a Basenjis middle name?

  • He's growing from a lovely puppy into a very handsome yung man. A credit to you Fran!

If you leave things in their reach (any puppy/young dog) will get into trouble.... pick things up.... put them away, they do not know the difference between their toys/chews and things like remotes/glasses/etc... they have your scent on them. You have to work on crate training if you can't secure a place for them.

Keep in mind, unless you correct them "in the act" they really have no clue that they have done something wrong, or more to the point "what they did wrong"…. shredding is pretty natural to a Basenji

@TMartin: Looks like he did wonderful! In Loki's puppy class we did the same exercise, with the peanut, regular exercise balls, and barrels placed on their side and with something underneath while upright to make it wobbly. One of the pics I posted of Loki months ago is of him on the peanut. A regular exercise ball is more challenging as you first need to make sure you have a good hold on it and then gradually loosen your hold so it wobbles however much the dog can handle at the time. And of course it is far more unstable than the peanut. I haven't ordered the peanut yet, but now that you are talking about the regular exercise ball, I might go for that instead, because I can use it to stretch out my lower back.

Snorky, Yes, Jason is very talented with the camera, although he won't agree if you ask him…so silly! Yes, Roo still fits in the bike trailer (Burley Tail Wagon.) Actually both dogs can go in it at the same time, there is a cloth divider so Bonzo doesn't have to put up with Roo's antics on the trip. Miranda
