    While it was stress-free this time, I'm sure if you do it often enough, Kipawa is certainly going to make you more "memorable" … When it comes to authority figures, I'm not always sure that's a good thing. ;)

    Yes, gas is waaaaay cheaper in Washington state. It's only a 5 minute drive for us to the Point Roberts border crossing. For example, I paid $1.19 for a gallon of premium, and here I would be paying $1.42 for a litre. That difference really adds up.

    I've never had a problem wth authority figures of any kind. Sheesh, I am almost 53 and have been driving since I was 18 and I have never gotten a traffic ticket of any kind. Never been involved with the law in any way either. But maybe that clean slate makes them wonder…....? :)

    Forgot to also mention that the grocery store in Point Roberts sells really good microwave pop corn, which is in its own a reason for me to go there. :) Pop corn is my drug of choice.

    $1.19??? Are you sure you don't mean $4.19 per gallon?

    I don't know what the current exchange rate is, but last time I looked it was close to par. So, assuming the exchange rate IS at par, at $1.42 per litre, that would be equivalent to $5.375 per U.S. gallon ($1.42 x 3.785).

    Or maybe you meant $1.19 per litre once you do the conversion from gallons back to litres? In which case, the price of a U.S. gallon would be around $4.50 ($1.19 x 3.785).

    Ooops! Thanks LindaH. You are correct. The $1.19 IS a litre. I was forgetting that since Point Roberts gas stations get the majority of their business from Canadians, they list prices for litres. So, it's still a good savings - especially when you drive a sports car that doesn't have the best gas consumption.

    Interesting! Sorta like Hyder in Alaska…it's right next door to Stewart, B.C., and the only way to get to Hyder is through Stewart (by vehicle, anyway). Although Hyder is a U.S. town, everything is done in Canadian money.

    Yes, that is exactly like Point Roberts, which is on a peninsula. There is a school there for up to grade 3, I believe. Anyone older than that gets bussed out of Point Roberts and through the Canadian border. I'm not sure if they are schooled in the Canadian town of Tsawwassen, or if they go all the way to the next border crossing, which would get them into Blaine or Bellingham in Washington state. In any event, what a huge thing to go through every day just to get to school!

    I bet! Especially if you are hauling a 5th-wheel or driving a motorhome-type vehicle. In general, the gas prices are crippling many. I shudder knowing that young children are probably hearing "no honey, we can't drive to that park. It's too far away and costs too much for gas". :(

Someone there all the time, proper attention to training, not just leaving the dog alone, especially not as a puppy. btw, he won't bark at all. As you would know if you had really researched the breed. He will cry and scream but not bark ! No. At least you are asking questions but I really think you should find another breed.

    Last I heard, the Breed Club secretaries had more people waiting or wanting pups than were available . You could get on a list for a Basenji next winter but I very much doubt you will find one still unsold. Go to the website of the BCGB, or the Northern Basenji Society as you are in the North and you will find email addresses of the secretaries. They will put you in touch with breeders who may be planning a litter for puppies to become ready to leave the nest in about a year's time. Its a long wait I know, but you have most probably missed the boat for now. You are welcome to post me privately. Good luck!

    Where I am it costs about $2K+ for a dog from a breeder for just about any breed. Goldens may be less because the litters are so large. That may seem like a lot, but, as Debra mentions, dogs cost money to care for. After vet bills and boarding fees and food, it matters little what the dog cost to acquire. Leaving true puppy mills out of the discussion, given the costs of being a responsible breeder -- testing, vet bills, feeding -- and how much work breeding is, I can't imagine anyone doing it for the money. That leads to two problems for people looking for dogs. One is that since breeding isn't really lucrative, there aren't a ton of breeders, which means the supply of pups is low. Second is that most Basenji breeders want to place their pups in the best possible homes -- remember they aren't doing it for the money -- which means they're looking for people who have had Basenjis before. Something of a Catch-22.

    @Thana: she does have basenji characteristics then apart from her colours and looks.- i also think she must have some basenji blood! She is lovely and lucky no matter what! adorable little face:))))) Having read about the characteristics I think she does. The lady with the basenji that we met also commented on some of the things she was doing as "very basenji" (eg. standing on her back legs so she could see what was going on). Has a lovely wrinkly forehead too. Got very frustrated with me earlier and did her funny bark, more of a wierd howl really. She is def one of a kind. Its a shame we have to have her spayed (not that I could ever justify letting her have a litter).

    @phoenix3: Looks like a B to me but i think more of a B mix he looks like he has corse hair Maybe be has the size of a cattledog body and a basenji head :) My Aspen is a cattledog/ terrier mix he has the body of a cattledog {the colors} and the height and face of a terrier heres a pic so u can see the colors of the cattledog well one color anyways :D :D phoenix3 - this is Aspen? I'm so amazed at her spots, because my Daisy has spots like Aspens. We know her mother is pure R/W Basenji and she is thought her other half Beagle. One of her other litter mate moms thought Blue Healer (cattledog). But I subscribed to the Beagle. Daisy could be … Cattle Dog I suppose. She's bigger than Duke now at almost 9 months old. I will show her off soon on "Show Off" forum soon.

    OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
