Chillin' in Florida

Basenji Talk
  • How absolutely adorable your kids are!!! Stormie is doing pretty well so far in the cold - yesterday he was not liking the rain that came along with the cold. I was actually thankful for a squirrel that raced in our path as it got Mr. Stubborn Storm moving along - quite briskly I might add! My arm? Slightly "dislocated" ;) but at least I got a good potty out of him! :D

  • He, he…our thermostat is only set to 62!

    VERY cute pics!

  • The other day after we came back from our walk, Senji was really cold. He went over to the space heater and gave me a little baroo to tell me to turn it on! :)

  • Betsey, It was warm at the park today, the boys would have loved it! None of my 3 will wear any sort of 'clothes', fortunately they are not cold-natured. They have been loving this 60-70 degree weather. Of course, they don't have to get up early and go out, they can wait till the sun is out and it has warmed up. I bought nice fleece lined, water repellant coats for them last year before we went to the mountains. I put the coats on them one damp cold morning and tried to take them for a walk. Not. They looked miserable and refused to move till I took the coats off!

Like Caesar, they do love to curl up in soft blankies!

  • I keep the house temp on the cool side and if he's too chilled EL D will either head for his doggie basket or hover in front of the heating vent. Or snuggle next to me if I'm sitting on the couch.

  • They are so funny arent they. Yesterday I put them in the backyard for a bit while I was in the front yard. I come back and peek at them from the kitchen window. They are glued to each other shivering in a sliver of sun on the porch!

  • I got savannah a sweater and when i put it on her she just stood still , didnt want to move around.

  • Ha! She'll get used to it. The boys dont want me to take them off! It is the part that touches their leg that they have to get used to. One wash and it will fit perfectly!

  • EL D has a coat type that snaps around his chest and under ribcage. However he doesn't like the back end because it will cover part of his tail. I have to make sure his tail is on top of the coat or he goes whacko.

  • I can imaging the whacko basenji. Too cute!

  • I think I was redundant – whacko - basenji -- sorry :)

Ladybasenji, where are you in Quebec? Montreal? We have a place in Gatineau (Aylmer sector) and one of my dogs might even be related to yours. You're experiences with your girl remind me so much of my first basenji, about 20 years ago–it gets easier, I swear! Let me know if you'd like help with Lady--they're nothing like labs and will never be "obedient" but there are tricks for training them : D

    Shaye's MomS
@Kona: Shaye's Mom - That's what I was worried about too with getting a second one, but since we got to do a trial run with Keoki I was able to calm my fears. He is so calm and trustworthy, but he is also 6 years old. Yes, I understand Keoki and Kona are doing really well - wish I'd been at West Park the day you went over - unfortunately, Shaye had been spayed the Friday before, so we missed you, and them. We have been talking with a woman who has a 7 year old Jack Russell female - of course we were going to get her dog almost a year ago, before we got Shaye, and it fell through because she changed her mind, so, who knows, but Shaye really really needs another dog, I think - older, more calm.

Sounds like a heavenly environment for pups! Yeah, I don't think I'd like to have my b named after a cut of meat either  We named Fiji to sound like her previous name Weegee and she adapted easily. If we bring Peanut home he may become Pinot. Red wine, red dog, y'know ;)
  • So are these Af's different than our domestic B's?

Jayden is super gross when it comes to what he'll eat: poop, vomit, and, if he pees on the patio, he'll lick that. Honest!!! We feed him and we feed him very well! Yucccchhhhh! Pat

I think I saw Sophie on a b video website and I was so glad that someone else's B made that noise I showed it to my husband and daughter. Thanks for posting that video because as a new B owner we thought we had some kind of devel dog!!! She does it the most to our oldest dog Josie. There are nights she even does it from under our covers in bed when she hears Josie moving out in the living room. Too Funny!!!!
