Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and just wanted to say hi. It's so fun to see so many basenji lovers! My husband and I adopted a 1year old basenji named Bimmy about a year ago, and it's been a fun adventure ever since. A friend of ours who has witnessed many of Bimmy's crazy antics asked us the other day, "knowing what you know now, would you still have gotten a basenji?". I just looked at him and said, "I couldn't imagine having any other breed!"
Bimmy is certainly a part of our pack, crazy antics and all.

The question your friend asked is one everyone in my family has asked me, and I have to tell them it's much too late to ask that question, they have wormed their way into our hearts. Even when they drive us crazy we love them and I'm sure you will find it the same. Pictures of Bimmy please??

Very nice pictures!

Welcome…
Bimmy is a sweety
I really like the picture of him sleeping on the stairs.

He is adorable! Is Bimmy on a kayak/canoe? How did that experience go?
And Bimmy is an interesting name, what is the story on that? -
Lovely pictures! He looks very long and elegant. I like the "CEO" pic. Very fitting for a basenji.

And Bimmy is an interesting name, what is the story on that?Yes, that is a picture of Bimmy's first Kayak adventure. It turned out to be a very fun day. We were able to kayak to a secluded beach where we let him off leash to run to his heart's content. The best part was when he had run pretty far away and we called "Bimmy!" He ran sooo fast to come back to us. That was special because we had only had him for a short amount of time at that point, so it was good to see him come to us when we called.
Here's a video from that trip

As for his name, his registered named was Serengeti to Bimini, so we just shortened it to Bimmy. It seemed to fit him well :).

Haha, he did make a good CEO. For the first few months that we had Bimmy, he got to go to work with my husband and I. Whenever one of us would walk out of our offices, we would always find him in one of our chairs when we got back!

He is a sunbather for sure! He moves to different spots of the house as the sun shifts

The first picture of Bimmy with the horses reminds me so much of Maxx (who is waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge). He loved horses and always wanted us to pick him up so that he could lick the horses' noses. Once we were at an RV park that had miniature horses, which Maxx could easily have reached the noses of standing on the ground. But he still wanted us to pick him up so he could lick their noses!

Precious…sounds like Maxx was a real sweatheart.

Bimmy very happy and Healthy, Welcome to the site. lots to learn here on the site.
-
Welcome! Bimmy looks like a very handsome, fun-loving guy.
And the CEO pic is spot-on, because Basenjis definitely think they are in charge. And, well, who are we to argue?
-
welcome to the forum! Great photos!!!

My experience with B's is that they ONLY come when called when you first get them–after that, they know you'll never leave them behind so they get REAL casual about listening : ) Be careful about letting him off leash, few Basenjis develop really reliable recall, while many more are hit by cars or lost.

I agree completely with this - when a Basenji has other things on his/her mind. you may become the last thing they care about. I always envy people who can let their dogs off leash - but I won't give my girl a chance to run off!

Welcome to Bimmy and your family! Those pictures made me smile - he looks like he has tons of personality. And isn't it nice when we can find a safe place for our dogs to run? They certainly, as Bruce Springsteen said, were "Born to Run". Groan….
