Take a look when you can and let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  • Pictures of the babies please!!!!

  • Click on the link in my last post. I will update that site regularly. Thanks!

  • Yeah apparently I can't read….

  • So you had 6. Sexes and colors please.

  • basenji fever

  • @sharronhurlbut:

So you had 6. Sexes and colors please.

Hi Sharron, We had five….three B/W boys and two dark brindle girls...

  • Congratulations - I hope Mum and babies are well. They certainly look a healthy litter.

  • Is there anything to the fact that the males are black and white and the females are brindle? Is that just a coincidence or is there something in basenji genetics that makes it that way?

    <- basneji noob

  • Just the way it goes…. color has nothing to do with genetics... but the interesting thing with multi colored litters is watching the way that that same colors will group... my first litter was 3 reds, 3 tris... the reds 2 males, 1 bitch would group and the Tris, 2 males, 1 bitch would group.. almost from day one

  • I think Pat meant that color has nothing to do with gender though it has everything to do with genetics. The colors in basenjis are not sex-linked traits like you find in cats.

  • So excited about this!! I have thought about the Basenji being the PERFECT working dog for a long time! Good luck to you and the pups! =)

  • @Heidi:

Is there anything to the fact that the males are black and white and the females are brindle? Is that just a coincidence or is there something in basenji genetics that makes it that way?

    <- basneji noob

Both males and females are black and white and both males and females are brindle in general, so yes it was a coincidence. :)

  • Alrighty! The B pups are two weeks old and growing like weeds! The male with the solid face is the biggest and most active and actively seeks any new odor when sleeping if it is introduced to the area. He may be a very good scent dog. He is also a squealer when mom leaves. Here is a short video with more pics to come:

  • LOL Jeff…. Love the Priority box!!! Reminds me of a conversation that I had a few years ago with a person looking for a puppy. They wanted to know if I shipped FedX!!!!

  • I had not thought of that when we did it! The boxes kept them contained for weighing! LOL…

  • The Kaden/ Phoenix litter is really coming along, tails a' curling' and ears starting to perk up a bit. We have begun to test them on toys, trying to determine prey and hunt drive, along with retention, curiosity, and other qualities. This is a very nice litter and the pups show no signs of aversion or fear. They all have quite a desire to interact with people. There are a couple that look like great working dog prospects for any detector work or sport. This breeding was with nose and ability to work for man in mind and we are seeing a lot of what we would expect from a working GSD or other working breed litter. The last 70 pics were taken last night with the first introduction to the toys. Feel free to write with any questions and cheek out our company page if you want to see some of the work we do. • Wow, just spent a lot of time reading all of the posts. Granted, I did a fast read, but I'll put my flack jacket on now. I am not a basenji breeder, nor am I a basenji expert, but I am definitely a basenji lover and someone concerned about the breed, and animals in general. Here are my comments (things that concern me).

    1. No testing done PRIOR to breeding.

    2. Initially thinking it was okay to x-ray puppies (hope I read that correctly, apologies if I didn't).

    3. Often when there isn't something in the market yet, someone comes along with an idea to make money…. I think you get my drift. Someone else on this forum had a similar feeling.

    4. I have never heard anyone on this forum refer to a dog as 'hot'. The word 'hot' in that context, used for any living entity seems kind of crass to me. A sports car is 'hot'. A dog is great, excellent, special, skilled.

    5. I understand we all have to learn at some point, but you waited until you had a pregnant female basenji to find out about a whelping box? I guess the breeders I know on here more often than not were tutored by other breeders before they had their first litters, and then probably often had help with the first litter. Kudos to those of the folks on this forum who provided you with info.

    6. Put me on the list of people who do not like e-collars. My opinion is that they provide a lazy way to train. What happens to your dogs if the e-collar doesn't work?

    7. I think you should have initially posted under 'Classifieds' or the 'Sports Forum'. Again, just my opinion.

If there are comments, I welcome them, but as I don't like getting into back and forth unproductive posts, I may not answer. I'm the one who usually breaks up threads that get out of hand. Saying that, I do appreciate that this forum allows us to have a place to voice our thoughts and opinions, whatever our basenji breeding knowledge, hunting knowledge or basenji IQ (and our general IQ) is.

Your thread is, I believe, the first thread I have felt strongly enough to comment in the way I have. Maybe it's the antibiotics I am taking.

I would say that if one had planned to get a pup before this all occurred, then perhaps it would be good timing, as it would give one the opportunity of spending more time with the pup in the crucial early days. Of course things will change and the routine will be different, but there are ways to ease into the new schedule so it isn't an abrupt shift from always being there to suddenly being absent.

Okay so I don't repeat myself over and over... please avoid puppymills/byb pages. Go only to the the basenji club for a list of breeders, use this link"" http://basenjiclubofgb.org/breeders.php Even THEN check out the breeders. As for champdogs site... when a site allows anyone to post if they pay a fee, not a good source. If all you need is a fee and one health test to be approved to be a member, not a good site if you are looking for well bred dogs from responsible breeders. Memtuka keeps protesting.. but this info is directly from her own pages. If she has more testing, then she lacks the professionalism to comprehend that people knowledgeable about breeding would never leave out tests, nor expect puppy buyers to look for further tests. As it is, it is woeful. As is her comment that she tests only if going to breed. A good breeder tests every single dog they produce and keep because they want to know what is in the line. In response to noodle a day ago reply quote @DebraDownSouth Really??? I don't know where you are getting your misinformation from. You seem to know who I am but continue to hide behind your moniker. The stud dogs I used ARE health tested and as far as I am aware Champdogs is a reputable website. May I suggest that you check your facts yet AGAIN and retract your libelous comments.<< I am getting my info from YOUR OWN PAGES. So if your dogs are tested more than I wrote, may I suggest you correct YOUR PAGES which is where I got, and said I got, my info from. Libelous when it is your pages, that's pretty funny. All anyone has to do is click on each of your dog's individual pages and see you list only the testing I said, with only the import with significant testing. Too silly to even respond to the moniker comment.. from someone whose name here is "noodle". Most breeders here use their kennel or real names, btw. As for info on your own pages.. members can simply click and verify.. or check screencaps below. I do hope if you actually have more testing, you will care enough about the image you are portraying of a breeder who has almost no health testing done on your first bitch, nor any listed for the studs of the litters. Lazy or impressively uninformed about the importance, I don't know. 2011 Litter: YOUR PAGE: ... Absolutely doesn't say sire is tested,on either litters YOU LIST.. see screen cap below. Her "health tested" lists only Fanconi. You say PPM, but it isn't listed. Sadly, you act like that is BIG..but yet, it isn't. Your import has testing, so it isn't like you aren't aware how much needs to be done. But again, you only list Fanconi. No PRA, hip, thyroid, heart, nothing else. Sire : Ch Zordia's Indiana Jones Dam : Zordia's Kinyamkela ShCM (Health Tested) Birth Date : 7th January 2011 Contact my Breeder Health Tests Zordia's Kinyamkela ShCM Fanconi Syndrome : Probably Clear/Norm 2009 Elsa's litter arrived in the early hours of 7th January. She had 4 very lively pups - 2 boys and 2 girls.<< https://www.champdogs.co.uk/dog/20360 Next litter, the IMPORTED bitch, yep health testing. But your page says "DAM TESTED"... nothing about sire being tested. If he really is, your job to note them, not "libelous" on my part to say what YOUR PAGE says: 28th November 2015 - Basenji (Dam Health Tested) As said before your IMPORT is tested :::Hi-Lite Bulldobas Wild Child of Memetuka ShCM (Imp Fin) https://www.champdogs.co.uk/litter/38881 Sadly, the readers can click on each of your dogs to see the scant testing YOU listed: https://www.champdogs.co.uk/breeder/24278 Our Dogs Ch Bulldobas Wild Child Of Memetuka (IMP FIN) ShCM - Basenji (Health Tested) Ch Memetuka Jabali ShCM - Basenji (Health Tested) : ::: the import: Hip Score : 3/4 = 7 - 29th May 2015 PPM : CLEAR - 17th February 2015 Fanconi Syndrome : CLEAR/NORMAL - 25th February 2014 Bas_PRA1 : CLEAR/NORMAL - 11th February 2011 Memetuka Cream O'the Crop - Basenji (Health Tested) Fanconi Syndrome : CLEAR/NORMAL - 22nd March 2017 Memetuka Dealer's Choice - Basenji (Health Tested) Bas_PRA1 : CARRIER - 17th March 2016 Memetuka Hi Roller - Basenji (Health Tested)Hip Score : 4/5 = 9 - 14th June 2017..... @dwilliams: Sorry for inconvenience-Updated website profile, accidently lost half while doing so, but her number is HP31186401- I guess My mishap has lead to paperwork being too recent to show up. And meant to respond to this earlier, depends on who they go to and specifics on spade/neuter & AKC 'limited'. Was this a planned breeding? Only reason I ask is that she is pretty young (only 1 1/2yrs) to be bred. And thanks for the AKC number. You might want to send the information to Sally for the pedigree site, since seems she is not there yet. Who is her sire and dam? http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/search.html
