Pippin and the stolen butter knife…

  • Houston

Pippin is almost 4 months old now and he has had enough time on this little planet of ours to figure out likes and dislikes…he really likes the dishwashing chore..i/e prelicking all the dishes as they are placed in the dishwasher, I am sure many of you have had the same help.
Well today..he was doing his chores, racking up bonus points for his coming trip to the "toystore" and what did he do..? He stole a wooden butter knife and gunned it outside, took off running into our backyard..mind you our backyard is 2 acres..Lukas sets off after him and me behind Lukas (I had to run and get the camera first..you know;))....we must've looked like idiots..
The more Lukas chases him the faster he runs, so after a few seconds I told Lukas to stop chasing him so he would come back...Pippin just laid down and started chomping on that buttered wooden spoon..

..as we inched closer he got back up, still chewing mind you..

..and off he ran again..with knife in mouth..

We turned and started walking towards the front yard again..and just like they say..he followed us, no fun running away when there is no one to run away from..

He finally came back so I could swipe the knife out of his mouth..and I almost gave it back to him, because how can you say no to this…?

Now onto his dislikes..he really hates his crate, hates it, but I still crate him if I am gone for a little while..if not this happens..

Today he figured out how to jump onto my nightstand so he could get ontop of his crate..that he liked..ps, I had placed that crate pad ontop because he keeps on peeing on it and I had just washed it, maybe that is why he thought this was cool with me..

He can lay there ontop of his crate and look down on the other dogs..score..and he can look out the window..score again..

While I was downloading these pictures..I hear a noise in the kitchen..what do I find..Pippin on top of the kitchen table eating the catfood the kids so lazily (maybe not a real word) left there…gggrrr

  • hahaha! i love it! what a great little pup - constant entertainment!

  • A proper Basenji!!

  • Exactly my thoughts Patty… "A Proper Basenji"!!!!

  • On the table.."the basenji in it's natural habitat"

  • Houston

haha, yes that is what I told my hubby.."honey…we have a very normal basenji on our hands.."

  • What a little stinker…and such a sweet face. You can't hardly be mad at him when he looks at you like that, can you!

Just want to make one little suggestion…. if you are really thinking about showing, you need to take off his collar in the house or secure yard time... collars on show dogs break the hair and leave marks.... just something to think about as to get all that to grow back can take months

  • well if you didn't want him to take that knife, why did you put all that yummy butter on it???

Tanza, thank you so much for saying that..I have been wondering that myself..I especially like the way he looks without a collar, his long neck is so elegant..It will come off of him right now.

AgileB..right..I had after all seasoned it up for him..:)

  • ROFLMAO, omg how cute. In the 4th pic he seems to be watching out the corner of his eye in disbelief.. WHAT? NO MORE CHASING ME?

LOL normal basenji, normal kids with laziness.

  • I totally gave up on collars after my less than 12 month old b puppy Zest got her mouth caught on the first malinois' collar twice in about 2-3 months.

  • Yes it was very thoughtful of you to butter the knife. He knew you did it just for him.

  • Oh my goodness, Kipawa is Pippin's twin! 🙂

I too have a pre-dishwasher. You can imagine what they are thinking - why are you putting these perfectly tasty dishes away! And we too put the cat food on the dining table. But so far Kipawa has not figured out how to get up there - we keep the chairs pushed right in, so he has no easy access.

What self respecting dog would pass up a buttered wooden knife! Good for you, Pippin!

  • You are such a good B mom! Running around with your camera to catch all the naughty moments and share them with us!

I love Pippin! What a great little guy 🙂

    Ha Ha! So true!!!

    What a cutie!

  • Cute pics 🙂 My B does the same thing waits in line to get to "prewash" the dishes LOL

haha, jepp he is normal alright…the chairs should be pushed in, but anyone with kids know "should" is not in their vocabulary...I was shocked..yesterday after that table incident he got up there 5 more times..he pushes the chairs out and then gets on them...too fr--k'n smart..
Janneke, I try to please ;):D..no kidding aside I love taking pictures and what better subject to take them on than a puppy..:)

  • Too cute, Petra! That face is how they get us trained, you know.
And yes, now that we are more confident about the kids knowing where they live and not trying to escape, we leave collars off too. They were getting 'hat head', only it was 'collar neck…' Of course, it makes it more difficult to catch them when they're looking for trouble - oh wait, that's pretty much all the time, huh?
