HELP ~ What to do?

Basenji Talk
  • I wouldn't wait another day if she's not eating yet - please take her back to the vet at the earliest.

  • Thank you all for your thoughts & concern. They did do an ultrasound also & all checked out OK ~~ Getting her to drink water & some milk last night. Woke up OK this morning & took her for a VERY SHORT walk (about 16 feet) She came back in, went to all of her favorite places in the house & I had my other girls talk/pet her (just in case) & after her favorite (the 3 year old) gave her a kiss on the head I took about 1 min with her & she took 3 breaths & passed away @ 3:30 today. :-(

  • How heartbreaking, i am so sorry.

  • Oh, I am so sorry.

  • Oh my..I am so sorry..what in the world happened to her? My deepest condolences to you and your whole family.

  • Oh no, I'm very sorry for your loss. Our hearts and thoughts are with you.

  • How shocking… I am sincerely sorry for you and your families loss- please keep us in mind if you need comforting

  • I'm so sorry to hear about this…

  • Very sad to read that. Really sorry about your loss. Was it an older Basenji?

  • Wow, I wasn't prepared for your updated post maggieleahy. I know there is nothing anyone can do or say to help your broken heart right now…..but I bet your sweet girl she knew much you love her.
    Please take care

  • Oh, Maggieleahy, I am so sorry about your loss. Your girl knew how loved she was by your family; please take comfort in the fact that she was with the ones who loved her most when she left this world.

I lost my Lucy unexpectedly last April, and like you, it was a sudden shock. I still cry for my girl, and I mourn her loss…. they say time heals, but that's later. Grieve and cry, and wish she was still with you... In spirit, she is still there, curled in her favorite spot, basking in the sunshine.

Hearts and Hugs to you and your family, my friend.

  • Oh dear. I certainly was not expecting this outcome. I am so sorry for your loss. Did your veterinarian ever determine the cause?

  • How sad. I am so sorry.

  • I'm so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. Just remember that they are always with us and never very far away.

she said in a earlier post her dog was 8 yrs old.

im very sorry for your loss, i lost my jack russell last year to cancer at 12 yrs old (my father had my dogs mother and the mom lived to 15) , best dog ever. and it hurts so much, make a collage of all her pics and like someone else said just wish she was with u. was the worst day of my life i had her from 8th grade till i was 26. she wasnt a family dog , she was mine and i paid all her bills. i was and still am devastated 3 yrs later. so unexpected reading your update i felt my heart drop into my stomache i feel so sad . once again im sorry and take care of yourself.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

Glad to hear things have improved. If it was a partial blockage perhaps it has resolved, but I agree that a vet check would be a very good idea just to be safe.

hi you dont have to feed them seperate!. you have to put the other one in a cage for about 5 to 2 weeks depending on the female. to feed them next to eachother.

I do now seeing what you say I do agree with a more verbal and/or stand up and as you say "higher dog" split them up. And I have seen this many times, where my boxer would do that at a dog park, he's such a dork lol, some dogs would start arguing and he'd go shoulder his way inbetween them and just stand there. I can also understand your point that there are a high number of boxers that don't get the clue and subtle hints, and part of it JMO is back to training. And the whacking them in the face, yep thats a boxer, lol. And I can understand that Basenjis don't like that. When we frst met our neighbor that had a Basenji, Reggie tried his normal "boxer" techniques (but thankfully he's not a face wacker) to get the B to play, pawing at him, low woofs, etc, since that didn't work he took the B's toy and stood there squeaking it at him and then took off in a game of chase, they were friends until we moved away.
