Late to the party…as always. But my boy does that just about every other night. He is quite vocal...in his sleep, and even while awake. He is far more vocal than my previous fella. He sometimes wakes me up with his noises. Yes, he wil growl, whine, and howl/yodel in his sleep. Welcome to my world!
We almost lost Buana last night

Oh my…it was my fastest reading. I am glad Buana is okay.
It has never happened to us. At the most they scream out when get down a big piece of bone, but that is all  -
Wow! Great quick thinking! You and Kas are heroes for saving your boy.
Regarding rawhides, I stopped keeping them around last time AJ got sick from eating one. The only chews he gets now are natural beef bones. He has a rib bone I gave him from a bbq dinner about 6 months ago and a sterilized femur segment stuffed with fake peanut butter. He'll chew on them for a while and lose them in his bed. Then he gets all excited when they turn up again, like "Is it my birthday?"

Oh my goodness! That was quite a scare!! I'm glad everything turned out okay. I wonder what your other two dogs thought as Buana was being swung by his hind legs.

Kim I am so sorry this happen. So very happy that you had the medical book and could save Buana. I know that was bad for all of you. Give Buana a big hug from us here in Kansas tell him we also think he is special. I hope all of you have a good day please keep us todate on how he is feeling.

Wow, scary stuff. Very happy to hear Buana is alright.
I'm also glad to have come across that procedure. This is something we should all know in the back of our minds. Thanks for the link Pat.

I used to give those rawhide chews to my last 2 Bs in the 90s but stopped as they get into small pcs and they would try to swallow them and then start gagging. No chews, no pigs ears, no hooves and no bones. They break into small pcs and if you are not there it's too dangerous. It's a good thing you were there!

Sterilized Beef Bones. They are quite durable. Kananga has 4, yes 4, laying around whenever he needs something to chew on. These things can be thrown at a brick wall and they'd probably stay intact. I don't even bother filling them with anything. He prefers his unfilled Kong. :o

Thanks so much Pat, I think this is very usefull for everybody that ownes a dog or a cat!
Even if you know in your head what you supposed to do, It's great to have this to check beause when someting happens you just sometimes don't know how to react…

Exactly… panic is the first response.... I had my OJ years ago choking on a rawhide chew that was getting small... I was able to get my fingers on it in his throat and get it out.. but let me tell you... my hand and arm were a mess as the poor boy was in a panic and bite the crap out of me.... I wish I would have had these instructions then! I now have them around the house and also carry in my groom kit when ever I take the dogs to shows or trials.

Wow, that was some intense reading..I am so sorry y'all had to go through that..Bless his heart..So scary.
I have some bullysticks, that I call "cratesticks" they are allowed to lay in their crates (for non fighting purpose) while I am in the room reading or the kids are watching TV..never alone, or while we are gone out of the house.
My westie, Bogus, once swallowed a whole rib and it got stuck in his throat, much like what Pat described, I too stuck my whole fist in his mouth trying to reach this now very slippery bone so I could yank it out of there..many bites on my hand later, it finally worked..It was scary to say the least and he wasn't even close to as bad off as Buana..
I printed out the CPR thing, thanks Pat..

HOLY COW, KIM! I was in a panic just reading your story! You did great…..so glad you were there and had the presence of mind to save your 'baby'. I appreciate you sharing the ordeal with us..........gives everyone a chance to learn from you. I learn something new everyday on this forum! I've printed out the Animal CPR information.............thank you forum people! You are so cool!

Oh my god! How horrible
I'm so sorry, that you had to go through this!!! Was very scared while reading and so happy that Buana is well again… Poor boy!
Never want to see my dogs like that We would panic, too.
Nothing to chew when we are away! But Bs are always finding something...Hugs to you!

Kim, you get the "Keeping your head in an emergency" prize. I doubt I would have even remembered I had a book, much less had the calmness to look up what to do.
I had to dig a piece of rawhide out of Topper's throat years ago and I was scared to death. I would never have thought to pick him upside-down and shake him.
I am so glad Buana is OK today, thanks only to you and Kas !
