Doesn't seem to… she's very healthy and active!

I second the bored statements, well I second everyones statements, so this could be redundant - but as most B owners will say "a tired Basenji is a good Basenji" … How much time exactly is she being walking/dog parked etc?? My B can't not have less than 4 hours of serious running/outside play time a day or she starts looking for trouble =) These are active dogs who are prone to be destructive and "disobedient" when they have too much energy or their minds are not being put to work... Obedience classes might really help here - and it will add to your bonding experience. The more connected she feels with you, the more willing she will be to comply with your requests. If this is your first B keep in mind they are not like other dogs, and you might have to interact differently (and have different expectations) with her than with your other dog. Your breeder should have good insight as well.. =) vive le forum, I think the above breeders hit it right on the head. ;)

Phoenix will get moody if he's hot this last weekend we had a heat wave :( And he was cranky as ever {can't blame him so was i} He won't go and bite someone but if they come up to him he growls as so say " can u see i am hot and umcomfortable and u want to put ur warm hands on me too" go away :)

It's a grooming thing. They use their front teeth to "flea" you. I think it tickles. One of my friends was VERY offended when my dog did this to him, as if a basenji was literally accusing him of having bugs.

My B, Sahara, loves to play fetch and does so almost everyday. I taught her how to bring it back to me and how to release it once she had it. Silly dog wants to play tug of war with everything. She will even go to her toy box and pick out the toy I tell her to get and bring it to me to play. She is the smartest dog I have ever owned and I have quite a few.

Tucker used to be bad about this. I think once your dog understands that you are to be respected and are his 'boss', he'll stop doing these things. The fact that he doesn't do it around your husband is indicative of this. When I have company, Tucker tends to do this type of activity in front of them almost ALWAYS. If my friends come in from Belgium and stay with me, they use my bathroom. When they are in there, Tucker rips up the toilet paper in front of them and steals stuff off the bathroom counter and takes off with it. He rifles through their bags and takes the remote when they are watching TV. If I am in the room, none of this takes place. Tucker has finally reached this state of 'respect' for my GF also. He used to go through her stuff and whatnot, but 4 months later, he treats her like he treats me.

I would also pump up her exercise…make your walkies longer and more frequent. A tired b' is a happy b.

@LiveWWSD: What a great Idea to reclaim some floor space. And congrats on Keoki sleeping well in his kennel for you. I have to say you are a VERY brave woman with the plastic sided kennels. CHarlie ate through two of them as a puppy before I gave up and got him an all metal kennel. :D Oh, hee hee. If the photo were closer, you'd seen the damage he's done to BOTH of them.:D Jazzy NEVER chewed her crates, but Keoki apparently couldn't be happy until they were both damaged.

About the JR type - Duke is probably Basenji-Jack Russell. I'm tellin' ya - I thought he was the craziest puppy on earth! He was about 12 weeks old and didn't know what he was. But thought it would be my advantage to train him young. Darn if all my efforts went down the drain with him. This was not a typical domesticated dog - at all. (More like a devil dog from hell.) But he was mine and thought he was better off with me than anywhere else, 'cause he was going to be trained one way or another with love. Today - he is well trained, but like was mentioned, he typically will respond to commands with the attitude of what it's worth to him. He's now almost 2 1/2 years old - sometimes obedient…sometimes rebelious and way happier since we added Daisy to the family. direy01 - kudos to you for loving Joey. I know the training is hard work - and exhausting - but your perseverence and repitition will be returned with pride and joy.

Hi Direy, To answer you, after 1 year of sleeping in my arms w/no problems, my Bgirl began growling & snarling in my own bed. Snarling scared me, so she now sleeps on the floor. I really miss sleeping with her, but that's not going to happen any time soon. Best of luck with you and your doggie. I hope it works out! Where in Or did you go? I take my 2 b's down to Cannon Beach on the Or coast. I go in the off season, you can get 2 rooms for the price of one…and most places like dogs. My 2 b's. love it... But its the only time they get a bath, I only let them off leash in the early am before anyone with another dog is out there... BUT, of course, the dead smelly "things" are on the beach 24/7. Guess its worth it, as we take our doggie shampoo down every year!

Take a small rubber backed rug, like a bathroom rug, to put on the metal table, then it won't slip and he will have good footing, and the smell of home to comfort him. Combined with all of the above positive reinforcement and lots of 'drop in' vet visits. Anne in Tampa

@Mia: Yes it is in the backyard, and no it's not fenced :( I wished it was. He is fine when we are going on walks, but as soon as he is left alone for more than 5 min he chews it up in a matter of a few minutes! Would a martingale collar work? I think the reason teh harness doesn't work is because he wedges his jaw on the shoulder part of the harness, and I figured that maybe a martinglae collar would work better since he can't get to it. Ahhh why can't he be more like his calm sister Mia lol… Welcome to the club! Trixie chewed her way thru at least 5 - 6 harnesses and yes also in a matter of minutes. The only time she has a harness on is when she is going for a walk or if we are taking her in the car. She has had her current one for at least 3 months ! It's a miracle, but I feel your pain!

the first night i had tayda she slept on the bed with me. i got up in the morning and got in the shower and closed the door to the bathroom. came out and she had peed on my bed. guess she was not happy i left her in the room. from then on she came in the bathroom and laid on the rug while i showered. now lenny and tayda both wait patiently on the bathroom rug while i shower now.

we had to quarantine him for 10 days and have him cleared by the vet. We have not heard on the doctor bills so I am assuming their insurance paid… which is what they said would be used if it worked. The boy was over here the next day so I know there are no hard feelings. no more problems with Rocky.

My B girl runs fast in 1000's of circles. When she's happy, or wants to go outside, feels "inconvenienced", if we stay up late, when we cook, or gets excited about her walk, etc. When she's upset or has separation anxiety, looks like 40 mph! None of my other b's ever circled. She's a rescue girl. Is that the basenji 500 or is this odd behavior?
