  • Great pic of AJ. He has a very nice coat. LOL, it works doesn't it! He just gives the look and then sends the vibe and presto, you're handing over some food. Buddy is super patient, never begs. Yep, I do give part of my dinner or what ever I'm eating. Mostly, chicken, veggies, eggs.

  • I hate/love that look. It is hard to say no..
AJ is so cute, I love it..

  • Such a patient boy…. :D

You have to reward them sometimes for their patience and manners. It's also hard to say no to that face...

I am with you nobarkus… all mine always get something as a treat from our dinner (when we were done)....

  • Back in the mid 70s I had to keep my first Basenji at my mothers for a while. One night my Mother had my brother and his wife over for dinner. I wasn't there. My Mother would leave some food on her plate and put it down on the floor everynight for Nipper to finish off. My sister in-law was shocked at my Mother letting the dog eat off the plate. My Mother was very tidy and kept the house immaculate. She said "sure I do, it goes in the dishwasher after"!

When I was a young lad in my twenties I had to keep my first Basenji at my mothers for a while. One night my Mother had my brother and his wife over for dinner. I wasn't there. I have found that Basenjis can be used as a pre-cleaning stage before the dishes go into the dishwasher. :D:D

  • I have found that by the time the Basenji is finished, you could put it back in the cabinet and no one would be any the wiser.

Not that I would, just sayin'

Shhhh, that's what I do. So when you comin over for dinner Eskilovr? :D I tell people I'm trying to get my dishwasher to learn to sit.

  • We call it "African pre-wash" then pick up the plate and in 70's TV-commercial-style, say "And I can see myself in the shine". I defy CSI to find any DNA trace of what we had for dinner on that plate!

  • AJ you look so cute there and you should get that special treat.

You know the joke minster comes over for Sunday dinner and when done he ask can I help do the dishes lady says no just need soap and water. Here Soap, Here Water.

Now there's the blond joke for the day LOL.

  • And did you say no??? :D

  • How could I?

He's so good. He waits like that until I'm done, but he watches every bite to make sure I save him some. I'm a well-trained pet person.:D

  • hahaha

And we ask ourselfe why a Basenji has such a caracter… :D

Mine pre-wash our dinner plates sometimes too - they're going into the dishwasher and it saves water rinsing them under the faucet! Now if I had the nerve to let them pre-wash pots, pans, silverware. . . . . :D

They are fantastic at that, aren't they? :D

  • I thought that was part of the dish cleaning cycle….Dog, Wash, Rinse, Dry

  • I have a friend with golden labs. She doesn't set the plates down after dinner every night but doesn't stop them if they try to get some licks in as she loads the washer. I have to point to those things at the ends of my arms for a washer and, even though I use the hottest water I can stand with the playtex on I still don't let the boy eat off the human plates. If he's to get a little something it's hand fed or in his bowl. If I had a dishwasher that might be different, but….

Similar joke....a guy goes to visit a friend in a cabin with no hot running water, the friend asks... so do you have to heat water when you do dishes and the host says no I just use cold water...."here Coldwater":D

Brindles were very contraversial in this country when they first arrived. The Kennel Club wouldn't acknowledge the colour and it wasn't admitted into the Standard for quite a while. One brave judge gave a CC to a brindle, before it was a recognised colour. I admit I wasn't keen on it, but surprised myself in Germany when I judged their specialty, by finding brindles for many of my top winners. Heads were universally better in them and movement was (almost) back to true Basenji gait. Something rarely seen these days, anywhere. And I have judged in quite a few countries. . . I put it down to the fact that, as they were very recent imports from Africa, humans had had fewer generations to mess about with them and they were still far closer to the old fashioned Basenjis I prefer !
