Eldorado does litter box train and they were always very successful at it when I visited..I know they line the outside of the box with newspaper too..so I would make sure to do that also so she's as familiar with the process as she can be. I would suggest if you can't get her to start using it for pooping soon to just get her a coat and start outside. The longer she goes without pooping where you want her to the harder it'll be when you need to change it. Bad habits develop fast. I wish I started Oakley outside right away versus litter training. He always would pee in it but he wouldn't poop in it. He got very used to pooping next to the box on the kitchen floor and to this day prefers going on hard surfaces. I know it's hard to imagine potty training outside in this weather but you might be better off in the long run.
I'm not against the litter box, I also have an eldorado pup; I just know the entire process would've been easier and more beneficial to is both if I braved the weather and did it in the first plAce
Totally new!

Thanks for the info. Actually, I forgot that I had them put on a disc also. Found that but not the pics. So, how do I upload a couple of pics, but not the whole disc. The forum info isn't really helping. Remember, big - time newbie.:)
Go to the FAQ above. You can put pics under your account or post pictures in a thread. A thread is what you just did creating this "Totally New". Anyway the FAQ should answer how to put pics in. If it's still confusing let us know.

Yes, I just figured out those little icons, been seeing them forever, never knew what they were/meant.:D O.K. maybe I didn't. Tried to upload the pics, can't see that it worked , or there are 20 of the same photo out there somewhere.
-
O.K. I think I just created an album of one photo. Did it work?
-
Yes, it worked. Cute pic of him rooing.
-
I had only had him for a week and he was already annoyed that he was out front and I was out back doing yard work. I was very surprised that he was that put out after just a week. I'm his third home though, so maybe he already saw what I already knew, "Forever Home"!! He was just trying to make sure.:D

Welcome to the forum! Lovely B you have!!
-
Greetings and welcome to the forum! Arleigh is really cute and he has a great spot on the window sill!
-
Bart, what a beautiful B you have. I love the window picture and of course the baroo pic too. Welcome onboard, hope you enjoy the forum as much as I have, I am a newbie too. I have a 6 mo( on july 5th) old Brindle boy named Otis and a new foster named Bana, she is almost 3. So far I love the world of B's…but I have yet to meet the very destructive gene in my dog..I am sure he is in there hiding somewhere though...LOL

I am so happy to have found this forum. Most of the people I talk to don't even know what a Basenji is, let alone their cute quirks and behaviors. I usually end up spending over an hour at the vet for just a check up because the vet and her receptionist are the only people I know that have Basenjis. In fact, it is the receptionist that hooked me up with the guy who had Arleigh as a rescue. They are members of B.E.A.R.-Basenji Education and Rescue. It's so great to find info specific to the breed and hear that I'm not the only one that loves them despite their peculiarities. Do you think Golden Retriever owners have as much to talk about??:D

Hello and welcome:D
-
Hi Bart! From which area in Ohio are you from? What vet do you go to??
-
-
I live in the Dayton area, my vet is Dr. Tracy Leonard. I was turned on to her by a fellow B owner, whose name I can't recall, shortly after I got my first one. I was walking the dog down a fairly well travelled road and this woman pulled her car over and was so excited to see a Basenji. She, apparently, had 2. We talked for some time and she told me about this vet who raised Basenjis and since I was not all that crazy about the vet we had been to originally (on advise from a co-worker) I took him to Dr. Tracy. Been going to her ever since. Nice lady and great staff. :D:D

Great, you got a few pics in your album. Beautiful young boy!
-
Welcome to you and Arleigh. What an interesting name, too!
-
Welcome, and thank you for sharing those adorable pictures.
-
Welcome! I love Arleigh's window seat, he is a very handsome boy. And you are so lucky to be able to go to Dr. Tracy, most of us feel lucky to have a vet that knows what a basenji is.
-
Welcome Bart!
That window shot is a classic:) I think you'll find a bunch of people who share the Basenji curse/passion here:D

I live in the Dayton area, my vet is Dr. Tracy Leonard.
Good for you - we live about 4 hrs away & I still consider taking our Bs to her. I don't know Dr. Leonard, but I've heard & read nothing but good things about her. It's hard indeed to find a vet with extensive basenji knowledge. I don't know any basenji owners in my immediate area
either, but I'm occasionally approached by people who know what breed of dog I have - always perks me up! -
Welcome
