Help from any Australian breeder networks?

  • First Basenji's

    Hello Basenji people…

This was on the Shiba forums, the "other" side that I frequent. I'm reposting this here since this is one of the most well-connected forums I know, and there seem to be more Australians here than over there. I didn't fact-check this, but a current available listing on Dogz Online seems to confirm (I'm not sure yet, but I think this is an older listing before the latest diagnosis, before the breeder decided to clear out his kennel).

If you think there's any way you can help, even if it's just passing this information on to your dog-savvy Australian friends, that could help too.

This is the last message I have for Dogsonline viewers.

Sadly I have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and will no longer be able to care for my beloved Shibas.

I am asking for kind, loving, forever homes for 3 Shiba Inus

Kalatara The Widowmaker - an 8 year old Black/Tan male.
Aust.Ch. Kalatara Christmas Gift. red 8 yo speyed female
Kalatara Yum Yum also 8 yo. red female and also speyed

If you can open your hearts and homes to these aged dogs I and they will be forever grateful.

Please contact Joan Holmes at tarkirra@bigpond.com or phone
    (03) 54611057 - or Mobile 0408 054306 for more details , photos and information.

To all Shiba Inu owners, breeders and lovers - Goodbye, God Bless.

  • This brings tears to my eyes. I hope these shibas can find a good home where they can all be together. I am sure the owner would find great peace knowing the dogs would be well cared for.

  • I hope you were able to get some help…
I am leaving OZ tomorrow to get back to the real life.
Best of luck to these little ones.

@kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

I would try to educate them. I would also do as Pat suggested, make an anonymous call to the state and fed tax reporting numbers and let them know. Best bet is to also call the local Dachshund club with a heads up… they may be able to educate them better without them knowing you were involved and warn about false advertising etc. Your state isn't listed in this Puppy Lemon Law list, but I have no idea how old it is: http://www.lemonlawact.com/what-exactly-is-lemon-law/what-is-puppy-lemon-law-320.htm This from aspca is probably current http://www.animallaw.info/statutes/stuslars2451_2778.htm#s2772

I'm in, too. Some are wire haired and others are smooth like a Basenji? Interesting breed.

Andrea, yes, I know…laugh. I just get tired of waking up thinking of these poor dogs and what they have to suffer. Hugs for all YOUR help with rescue.

I do rescue, so I do like spay/neuter, but these folks who are breeding for aggressiveness won't pay any attention to any of the laws that are passed. However, putting them in jail should get their attention. Pits are a good dogs but can be bred into a fighting dog. Basenjis are now good breeds, but anyone who has done rescue, or owned a "damaged" basenji knows they will bite and that can do damage! We need to put the responsiblity on the bad owners who breed for fighting dogs or even the BAD breeders who breed defective dogs and know it, and sell them anyway. Puppy lemon law anyone??? That shouldn't hurt the good breeders who have "something" come up, but the breeders who consistantly have sick/bad dogs… Just a thought.
