Some pictures of Otis, feeling much better..

  • Good to see Otis looking so happy and well after his ordeal.

  • @etzbseder:

He is beautiful. I love the middle pic with the brindle showing through.

Medjai just got a similar smelling experience. He just found out yesterday what desert tortoises smell like, but when he actually found the tortoise, it spooked him as he didn't expect it to move.

One of my puppy people in So. California have a tortoise… that is huge.. and very old.... When Tiba was a baby, she thought it was great fun to stand on top of "Fluffy"..... Her Mom, Fatia (who I placed with Tiba) did not think it was amusing..gggg

And as Tiba grew up, she would have to be kenneled when it came time to feed Fluffy... cause she would steal all the fruits from him.

  • I hope she got pics of that , it sounds too funny. Otis steals fruit all the time too. He has yet to figure out that it is fruit in the bowl on the counter, I guess because it has skin on it, but once you bite into one or cut it up, it is free for the taking..he thinks..

I do have a picture someplace of Fluffy… will have to go through my pictures (not digital) and see if I can find one.

  • I know how it is pre-digital times, I have tons and tons of pictures, they are just so time consuming to go through. I like the digital era…just look in your pictures on the 'puter and it is all there.

  • Glad to see Otis is better. I had problems with my elderly BC and Metacam. It just doesn't agree with some dogs!

  • I'm so glad Otis survived his close call with a car! He looks fine, but I doubt he has "learned his lesson". He is a lucky dog many ways, wonderful to see him looking so good.

  • So glad Otis is feeling chipper! I'm sure all Basenjis would like to outlaw cars, except for getting in and going to the park or some other big adventure.

  • So glad he is feeling better! Love the pictures! Keep us posted on his progress…

  • I Definitely do not think he has learned on thing from his ordeal, he tries to gun it as soon as the door opens, to get into the front yard. Now I have been working on him to sit if the door opens and so far so good..but I don't trust him..
Either way he is feeling much better in his body, his stomach is still upside down, severe diarrhea, has lost 1.6 lbs since monday, not good. I just came back from the vet and they ran several tests, nothing came back suspicious, so we are doing a 30 day cure of probiotics, a wormer to be on the safe side, as well as a 3 day cure of antibiotics. He is not acting as if his stomach is sore when palpatated, which is good, according to the vet..He ate two servings of food when we got back, well I actually just gave him one more, because he was acting as if he was still hungry..
Again, thanks for all his well wishes..
On a different note, the vet was giving him some treats and after giving him a few she continued to talk to me….he wouldn't have any of that..he started talking to her in a really weird growly manner, it was so funny..he has never done that before..needless to say he got more treats after that.

Only a Basenji would look upside down like that rather than turn their head sideways, it's hilarious. One thing that Basenjis do is make me laugh, they are silly but so serious doing it!

@weeziesmom: I have tried chew bones to curb his chewing however he tries to take weezies and they fight over them You can teach him to leave hers alone. Make them both sit for their chew; give hers first and make him stay with you when she dashes off to chew. {helps him see that she gets one/he gets one, and also gives her a head start!} Make sure he knows you have one for him also. He must sit and make eye contact with you before he is given his treat. Once they both have a chew, make them stay in different spots. Stand between them, moving your body silently to block his attempts to get to her. If necessary, tell him "no" or "leave it". It shouldn't take long for him to learn that he gets his and she gets hers. Eventually, he will just look when you hand her the treat and will sit and stare at your face until he gets his own, then he'll run to his own spot to chew his bone.
