Hit by a B

Basenji Talk
  • Dude- Jack woke me up that way yesterday! Smack, right on the forehead!

  • mia does that.. if you keep talking to her or make a noise she doesnt like.. she smacks ya right in the face! or if one of the others growling..she slaps them haha

  • I guess you could say we have all been B-Slapped ;-P

  • Keoki hits us when playing or when he wants attention.

    He slaps the other dogs in play, or to put them in their place {we do not allow that, but as with many things we do not allow, it happens, LOL}

It cracks us up. Jazzy doesn't do it at all.

  • LOL - Duke has slapped me in the face more often than I'd like to admit. He's so fast, I never know when he's gonna do it, or I'd grab his paw before he succeeds. (ouch!) LOL!!!! I know he wants to play. I actually think he wants me to look at him, so that's why I never see it coming.

  • EL D has done that when he wants my attention when we're both on the couch watching TV. Who runs this house anyway?

  • Lola does it all the time. It means many things:
    "Good morning!"
    "Good night!"
    "Let's play!"
    "Stop making noise!"
    "Make that noise again!"
    Among other things I'm sure….

  • Dash does that if you blow in his face. We learned that the hard way.

  • @Andrew:

Lola does it all the time. It means many things:
    "Good morning!"
    "Good night!"
    "Let's play!"
    "Stop making noise!"
    "Make that noise again!"
    Among other things I'm sure….

While reading this I heard your Lola voice saying all of it.
Does anyone else talk in funny voices when imitating things their B might say if they could talk? Carrie does, Andrew too in fact. The Lola voice is high pitched and rather sing songy. Love it.

Oh and yeah I definitely got socked in the eye by our darling pup yesterday. So Liz's fault. She got him all riled up…then pow in MY eye.

  • She-Ra nails us with that one when I'm making a noise she doesn't like or when roughhousing gets too intense.

They really are pretty unique as dogs go, aren't they?

  • The first time Tyler did this he was much younger and on a "time out punishment" for something he did. (Time out for us was to ignore the behavior, and/or the dog if necessary.)

Tired of being ignored, (and I'm sure he thought no one was watching) he stealthily climbed to the couch arm, then to the couch back, and sat directly behind my daughters head. He then proceeded to do the tap, tap, tap with the paw on the back of her head. Being young and irritable (can you say PMS??) the DD reached back and slapped his paw. Tyler pulled that paw back at the speed of light and b#tch slapped her right up side the head:eek:, sprang off the couch, and ran away. After a moment of stunned silence, we all just burst out laughing.

Now Tyler just uses his b#tch slap on his sister, Kate. When they both do it at the same time, usually standing on their hind legs, we call it a kangaroo boxing match:D .

  • "Kangaroo boxing match" indeed – even though I only have one basenji, he pulls that stance on me all the time. You just gotta love them. :)

  • Jack pulls that stance on anyone and anything- me, DH, bones, his bed. Anything he has decided he wants to play with. It is usually accompanied by a huge grin. I love it!!!:D

I TOTALLY DO THAT TOO! Beegin sounds high pitched and a bit snippy - almost a UK accent (not that people from the UK are snippy by any means…don't take it that way!) My whole family does that too. We used to have four dogs when I was growing up and all four had different voices and the 2 cats too. My family was heavilly into theatre so that may explain it.

  • Sahara has pawed my hand if wanting attention, pawed at my face, but smack, never. My cat has smacked me before, is the smack like a cat's? Describe it in more detail please.

I guess I'm just lucky with Finn. I'm sure he'd prefer it dry, although hes fine in the rain and snow! Maybe getting him around December helped

I dont know in terms of distance but mine usually go at least an hour and have gone 2 or more if its cool. I think they would walk all day if I had the time because they never want to go back home though once we get home they will plop down and go to sleep like they are exhausted. Gee mom is just so mean for dragging them all over the neighborhood and keeping them away from their sleep. As was mentioned chief being tri (9 months) feels the heat more than my r/w zoe but now that the days are cooler he keeps up with her fine.

Abbey was almost banned from my son's house after she killed the cat's feather on a stick thingy. We don't have our own cat although she'd like to have one of her own. She loves cats!

A coupple of issues in this thread! (Way to multi-task here people!) Treats: the whole "upset tummy" is definately a too much of a good thing issue. Whatever you decide to treat with, make them very small and just watch how much you give. My dogs go nuts for bologna or plain ham. Cheese is the perenial favorite, but never underestimate the power of a "Good Boy!!" Coats & "Cold" Weather: My boys have it rough. Living in the Midwest, it is not uncomming to spend all witner in the single digits (not counting windchill which often kicks us into the negative teens, if not worse). Both boys have dog coats made by Lands End in the same style (and cold weather specifications) as their Squall jacket series. It consists of an easy belly band and front chest closure meathod. No worries about tails or legs. Easy on, easy off. And my boys live in them during the winter. Dogs, just like people, quickly acclimate to the weather. If we deicde it's "Cold" at 50 degrees, they start to feel that way. If we decide 50 is downright balmy, the dogs learn that too. Walking: Oh, the perenial issue of B's! I agree with many of the posters here: it's all in the tone and your attitude. If you decide to be upbeat and positive and decisive, the B will follow! (But probably will quit at mile 6 if he hasn't had his ice cream yet… grin)
