I've hunted deer with my basenji in emergency situations during archery season. She has helped me find several wounded deer in the woods after dark. Basenjis are easily distracted by other trails and other deer scents so you need to make them associate the smell of deer blood with getting a raw venison treat. My basenji found a deer for me the first time I tried it with her. Most dogs need extensive training for this but she picked it up in 10 minutes. She has helped me a great deal. If there is no blood on the ground however it'd be tough depending on the wind direction, and they usually get distracted by diverging deer trails if there is no blood to follow.

What is his Sire and Dam's name? Doesn't Sadiki Basenjis have Eldorado Basenjis in their pedigrees?

Thank you! The sire was "Alex" from Majestic Basenji's in Cumberland RI, the Damm was "Misty", one from Sadiki's prior litters. I don't think Eldorado is in the pedigree. I should be getting it soon though.
He will be my second Basenji, but my first male. I have to say he has surprised me a bit. He always likes to know where I am, which is a bit different than my first one. She was a bit more independent.
I love the pictures of Dallas, I believe I saw her on youtube is that correct? I have been putting videos there as well.

QUOTE]Were the sire and dam DNA tested for Fanconi?

The sire was Majestic's Xander by ElDorado and the dam was Sadiki's Mystery Torte. Both tested negative for Fanconi using the DNA test.
Tonight was our first puppy class…he kinda suprised us as being a little scared of the other puppies. But by the end of the play session he was playing with a couple of the smaller dogs.
