  • Welcome, I live in Wa. Silverdale. Where are you located?
There is a very active basenji club in Seattle and they have some wonderful lure couring set up for b's to run. I would be happy to share that info with you.

oh wow I had no idea that Seattle had one! :) Thatd be fun for her…Only thing is were working on her not being so aggressive with other dogs. Shes fine with them until they start barking at her. BUT then again, basenjis wont bark at her lol :) She CAN bark, but she hardly ever does, true to the basenji breed she yodels more and "talks" more than anything

  • What a beautiful girl!
She looks a lot like my Katie.
I posted about Katie here just a few days ago.

  • Welcome to the forum!! Your pup looks lovely :)

  • Pretty girl, where did you get her?

  • She is very pretty! My basenjis get along with most other dogs, but really get annoyed if another dog barks at them…so maybe that is a basenji thing. She may be fine with quiet, respectful dogs. ;-)

Yeah thats how she is….as long as the dog stays cool...then shes fine too! Shes not necessary aggressive, just VERY protective :)

I got her from the ASPCA…My husband looked around online to see what breed he might be interested in and basenji came up and he found her on a local search for pets. We were a bit skeptical, as were the people at the ASPCA, about her being around our young son. But we took a chance and just watched her very closely when he was around. And she is so great with kids, she loves them sooooo much, and not even just ours but when she hears kids' voices she perks up and immediately wags her tail! She really is the best dog ive ever had, though she can be a trouble maker lol

  • Welcome and your dog is very pretty and looks so happy. Full or half who cares they steal your heart. Have fun.

@Nancy-Berry The saying is a very true one... when people ask how your dogs are with children, say "It depends.. how are your children with dogs?" Toddler Leora got her little legs smacked more over the dogs than anything. Not training your child to respect dogs, to understand that a hurt dog can and probably will respond, ... well it puts your child and dogs in danger.

I think they just look solid so my mind saw "bigger." I have one of the Wimaumau rescue giants (44 pounds), but even my 2 previous gals were far from petite... about 26 to 28 pounds. My dream of a petite 18 pound basenji just never happened, lol.

What a sweet face! Thank you for taking her in, she needs a forever home. As Pat indicated, unless you have info on the parents being clear, or at least one clear, she should be tested for Fanconi asap.

When I 1st got Kirabo, I had named her Hollie. A few mths later my wife told me every time I had a seizure, she would go crazy & wouldn't leave my side. Then 1 night I had a dream & God told me to name her Kirabo which means " a gift from God". She truly is God sent. Kirabo stays by my side & is constantly keeping her eyes on me, always observant of every-thing I do.
