One Year old Male Basenji for a really good and loving Home

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • My husband contacted the breeder. She said since she has 3 basenji's she does not want anymore but she will keep in mind if anyone asks.
There was a contract but not so much in depth about returning the puppy. She was a Basenji breeder but did not show them.
We have always had Boxer breeds and we travel every weekend with our kids that's involved in travel sports. We love Gunner and he is such a good boy. That's why we wanted to reach out to the Basenji community where owners understand and knows their personality and find a home where he can hopefully have other basenjis to play with and have more activities. Gunner is good with other dogs but he is very cautious at first. He has played with other dogs. Thank you for all your suggestions.

  • It's always good to post a picture of the dog if you have one. There are often people looking for Basenjis on this forum. Another possibility is Basenji Rescue & Transport. They try to place the dog in an appropriate home.

  • So much for the breeder being responsible….. you have not really said why you are placing him? Is it because you are off to sport things with the kids? I would highly suggest that you contact BRAT (www.basenjirescue.org)

  • Sad that your breeder is of no help as a responsible breeder should be, glad you are understanding of your Basenjis needs and you have some good advice here, hope Gunner finds a loving home. Good luck.

  • Where in Florida are you? BRAT has a very effective Florida network and they do a great job with re-homing basenjis. Are you near Tampa by any chance?

  • I'm sorry you didn't contact me, I might have taken him myself.

    Did they find a home?

  • I never heard from her, too bad, could have gotten him a home, maybe with us.

  • That would have been an excellent home for him with Anne, such a shame…hope she ends up contacting you nevertheless...
So great of you to be thinking if giving another B a home, especially one in need Anne.
Hope you guys are doing well with Nicky's passing.

  • I every basenji breeder I know always takes their dogs back, in the contract, and always is involved in showing their dogs.

  • @Meiberry:

Gunner is tri color and loves his toys and enjoys playing with kids. We have his AKC records, he is neutered and shot records are all up to date.

    Has the dog been placed?

@cathyroy I am not sure what Natasha is doing, if busy or whatever with the holidays. You may be what she wants, but she's got company or otherwise tied up. She did say maybe set up a trial, so give it a few days before getting upset. However, I will make a few observations about the fit. you have small children you say are good with animals, but you don't have one, so how do you know how they will be with one actually living with you? your interest in a basenji is based on their lack of significant shedding. This is not the breed for a family with young children who have little or no experience with dogs. Your husband presumably works, so the dog will mostly be with you and your children. you are wanting to ADD a dog to your family. She isn't looking to give the dog away. Just as you would be careful of who you have babysit your children, she hopefully wants a suitable fit for her dog. For me, that would be someone experienced in the breed or at least a lot of experience with a variety of dogs and is interested in fostering, not taking, my dog. It isn't an easy decision either for her or for someone agreeing to keep her dog.

@naz-roseberry I think it will work out well with Cutlers "Grandma & Grandpa" lol. I think that the move to a new neighborhood with 10 times the kids upset Cutler bcoz it was 10 times more noise than he was used to. Plus, I think some kids teased Cutler when you weren't right there with him & it was just too much for him noise wise & the teasing just flat pissed him off! At least Cutler is still in the family! He knows the people he's going to live with & he'll be able to see his before family when you all go to visit! I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to have to put him down just because he wasn't able to adjust to the new neighborhood. I'm really happy that you don't have to go thru that too. Hopefully, all's well that ends well ~ right? Take Care! Nancy Berry

I think that many adopters would pay for the cost. And add to that if it is a situation that a person has contacted BRAT to give up the dog and he/she is not tested then they should be required to put up that fee. I think that BRAT does an excellent job in most respects, however this is one point that I really disagree with not testing. I am not sure that they would agree to test even if people covered the cost

Hi, I talked to my daughter last night and she really does not want me to find him another home, even though he's making her sick, (she's allergic to him). She threatened to leave home if I did. She's 18 so she could. I guess we will try and keep him. The good news is I did find a place that will pick up and drop off dogs, take them for long walks in the woods, and let them play with other dogs for the day. All for just $17.00 a day. So at least he's not in a crate for 9 hours any more and he seems to really enjoy it. He runs to the person right away and is excited to go and comes back very happy and tired.
