11 month old Basenji boy for sale

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • OMG - gained 3 pounds! What was he when he returned - skin and bones?

  • Thank God he is now under your care and your watchful eyes.
Those people must have been nuts!

  • He is absolutely adorable. I'm praying for a wonderful new home and family for sweet Soda!

  • Arlene, he looks a lovely boy - a lifestyle change? how often I've heard that story. I'm sorry if I've misjudged them but I can't believe anyone is good if they starve their dogs. So pleased though that he was returned to you and best wishes for his new home (I'm sure that won't be long).

  • Shame on those owners..no excuse for this..

  • I can't say I knew what was going on totally in her mind. A breakup happened and she may have been so emotionally erratic that she didn't notice what was going on. You just never know what's in another person's thoughts.

I did get the vet records and he was at the vets in July, so she did attempt to care for him at some point. You just never get the whole story.

I also updated a little info on the listing.

  • Arlene, I'm so glad you have him back! And glad I don't live close to you, I would be begging for him. When we rescued our Eddie he was 2 years old and weighted 13 pounds (tall and looks good at 30 lbs., now), I know how heartbreaking it is to see one so starved. Soda will look great in no time and I hope you get him to his perfect forever home soon. Hugs to you and Soda

  • Normally, I wouldn't have a problem wanting to place him far away, but he's had two plane trips, and because of suspected issues, I would like him to be placed closer. I don't really want to inspect unless I need to, but, if there is an issue, I would like to be able to see his progress if there isn't any forward movement on these issues. I know he needs to be 'out and about' more and needs more crate training, as well as exposure to different situations, but these need to be tempered over time because of his lack of stress management.

  • Soda from Edmonton? That's disappointing! guess that puppy-date isn't going to happen now, but that explains the unanswered emails…
If he's the same, his vet was Dr. Bear, and attended the puppy class before ours at petsmart. The trainer kept comparing Cricket to him, and she was the delinquent!

  • Aww Soda was from Edmonton? As long as he is in good hands now and is recouping. I understand about the plane rides though. That is a lot of stress on a puppy.

  • Yes, Soda from Edmonton. He is doing pretty well now, but still can't handle stress very well. But he looks 100% better than when he arrived home and his playfullness is just coming out. He still loves cuddles and kisses and is actually very, very good. Isn't destructive, quiet for the most part and isn't prone to outrageous behaviour.

Hopefully brat or camp basenji contacted the owner. More hopefully, the owner contacted the breeder who generally has first right of refusal to take back their puppies.

Folks, This thread has been closed, pending review and moderation. Please respect our forum community rules and guidelines. If you feel that you need stop posting for a while because of a conflict with other members, please step back and email us directly before posting publicly about the issue. Best way to to handle arguments on the public forum is to just let go and move on. http://www.basenjiforums.com/showthread.php?t=374 COURTESY AND RESPECT The purpose of this board is to provide a place for Basenji owners to make connections, exchange information and assist and encourage one another. It is above all a friendly environment for online discussion. Don't be rude to others, or make an argument personal If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all Know the difference between a difference of opinion and a personal attack Don't try to "win" an argument by repeating yourself over and over Don't tell others what to post Don't bash other members Keep it clean, don't use profanity Why can't I tell this user what an idiot he/she is; every single thing he/she posts is just so wrong? If you can't find a respectful way to express your difference of opinion, then you're better off saying nothing at all. Don't talk down to other posters, lecture them or be rude and dismissive. Disagreement is fine, but attacking another poster personally will get you in trouble and result in a ban from the forum. But he started the fight by attacking me! Can't I defend myself? This is a forum for the discussion of Basenjis, not a dueling society. If you feel attacked, please report it to the admin and then ignore the poster, respond to another thread. Remember, however much you were provoked, if you attack a poster personally then you are just as guilty of breaking the rules. Why can't I tell a poster that he's breaking the rules? This board has a moderator. Telling other people what to do is rude, derails the conversation even further and often ignites flame wars. Please just report the user to the admin and move on.

I just wanted to respond to this thread. I hope everything is going good with you and things are working out. The thing I wanted to respond to was the thought that a man may have abused him since he does not do well with men. A basenji can make their mind up about disliking something for no reason at all. My first Basenji was with me from 6 weeks of age and never had a man abuse him and at two years old decided he hated men for the next two years. I kept him socialized and kept getting men to feed him pet him while I had him stacked and holding his head, had them talk to him, go over hime etc. after a while his dislike left as quickily as it came. I have had a few dogs do this sort of stuff between 12 and 18 months I call it the stupid stage, they all the sudden don't like men, women, the grooming table, the trash can outside etc. It is important to work them through their fear so they can be a complete dog. Just think how it would be for you if say you were scared of men but had to see them daily just think how stressful your life would be. I hope if you keep him you help him get through this or if you place him please be honest with the new owners and recommend that they get him out and work him through this.

@sharronhurlbut: Pat, I am not a "fan" of low cost spay/neuter places either…BUT IMO, they are less of a risk than having an intact basenji placed in the general public. I will post an article I just received re pet owners and getting their pets fixed in my next post. Re this note, to me, having the dog fixed at one of these places is the lesser of 2 evils. Yeah…what she said!

@bellabasenji: It all boils down to what is better for the (so called)"breeders" wallets!!! UUuuugh… BYB's & millers!!! That is true, a pure for profit breeder is not going to spend money on health testing that is going to cut into their bottom line. They will do as little testing as they can do and still sell puppies. Educating as many people as possible to demand health testing for both parents is the best thing that we can do for the breed. There will always be some who want a puppy "right now" and won't care but the more people we can educate the smaller the market for puppy mill dogs because really most people do want to do the right thing and want a healthy puppy that will be a long lived companion.
