Cosmo smells like…

Basenji Talk
  • …fabric softener... I did the laundry later in the day and put her blanket on it and used it last night... She always bury herself in it to keep super warm and toasty... This morning, when I was playing with her, she smelled kind of fresh and clean... And then realized why... I think she's static-free, too!!! :D:D:D

  • Wow, smells good and static free too! That calls for some extra hugs and smooches!

  • My rat terrier, Joker, gets very anxious whenever there's a thunderstorm, and starts to shake… and we live in the lightning capital of the US. :) Someone told me to rub his back with a fabric softening sheet, like Bounce... and it was supposed to discharge the static electricity in the air! Well, it didn't really work, but he sure did smell good! :) :)

  • o PattyM…you had me cracking up at the thought of your rubbing your B with a fabric softener sheet....thanks for the laugh

@roguecoyote That's funny....just this morning I had Binti out for her first thing in the morning pee and the grass was still wet. She walked a little then went back to the street without peeing. She returned to the grass to pee and when she came back to the street she had to sniff each of her OWN pawprints!!!!! These guys are a crack up!!!!

I drove 20 or so minutes each way to my friend's horse far. Not one day did we miss seeing one or more dead dogs on the roads. Too many dogs in shelters picked up from being lost; or hit by cars. While my Rottweilers and first basenji were solid off leash, they only place they got to do it was at my friend's farm. And they weren't just turned out, I was out with them. In the old days, almost all dogs ran loose. The norm... and if they died or were lost... well, get another one. Many died. I quit talking to people about it. They say "they want to be loose" and I say "so do toddlers and 3 to 5 yr olds... I still don't open the front door and send them on the world. " They get mad, I get mad, nothing accomplished. We all take risks and avoid others. Unleashed is one of my "no" areas. And rawhide. Absolutely dogs raised in a village in Africa are not the same as here. I think most dogs don't get enough exercise and mind stimulation. When you do that with an intelligent breed like basenjis, you're going to get unwanted behaviors. You may want to read up on Dr Jo Thompson's work, as she also lived in Africa with these dogs. What wonderful experiences those of you who go to see where they came from.

I would think they are extra interested in the smell because it is so foreign to them. So they keep sniffing it in hopes to identify it.

uggh reminds me of my parents dog. Lady, in her younger years, would take cat poo out of the litter box and eat/roll in it. outside she would do the same with random poo on the ground. just be glad you didnt have to clean up the carpet too! lol:p

Thanks, Jodie. I don't think Mags gives a rip about the song ("Just rub and scratch, no singing necessary, PLEASE!"), but it makes me feel happy!
