    I found the transcript from the documentary. If the age part is true, the rest is not (unless there's difference between our European bred Basenjis and those in Africa): NARRATOR: Sharing the same curly-tailed trait [as the Akita] is the venerable African Basenji. DEBBYE TURNER: Basenji is the granddad of ancient dogs. However, they’re not that trainable. They will not do obedience tricks like other breeds. Come back here. And here’s an example! NARRATOR: There is something else very wolf-like about a Basenji… SOUND OF DOGS HOWLING NARRATOR: …its yodel. These breeds reveal much about how dogs may have appeared and acted after they first transitioned from pack hunters to scavengers and provide clues as to why they may have first appealed to humans. DEBBYE TURNER: You won’t see Basenjis doing tricks, but because of their closeness to their wolf ancestors, they are considered very adept hunters. Here's the video link.     @Rita: What about memory foam on one of those heated pads that should make the hips better all warm. Soft so don't hurt hips and heat make it nice kind a extra. Rita Jean the memory foam beds are pretty thick, i'm not sure the heat would go through from underneath. but they do make heated inserts for beds - that may work. and by all means, i'm sure your "pup" would enjoy it. some are like memory foam chips, i'm not sure how that would be. BUT if you want a nice thick foam bed (not memory foam) and your dog isn't distructive, you can go to the craft/fabric/upholstry store and buy some really thick foam. I've done this for an insert in a bed

    Jaycee digs same way but she does somersaults head down over she gos first time neighbor saw it they could not beleive it. I think neighbor came over every day for a week waiting to see it again and Jaycee would do it. Yes I very much second that digging usually will cause the great B-500. Rita Jean

    Thanks Humanoid. I L'dMAO. Great idea with the home made wood bed. I still can't praise the Duluth Trading Company beds enough. Katie proof (a bed digger), and Tyler proof (exposed stuffing of any kind is fair game). 6 years and the bed is still in use. Washable outside and re-stuffable inside pillow (inside only replaced once due to a basenji/skunk incident) After 5 or 6 dog beds, this one is a keeper for me.

    I am not sure if the have that type of crate, but Centinela feed and pet store has a large selection. You may want to try there. I love that store! They are at 7600 S. Sepulveda Boulevard. Good luck!

    Hollie will hide her treats and her dog food. Her favorite hiding place is under MY pillow in the bed. She has tried to hide her entire food bowl by pushing one of her plush toys with her nose in an attempt to get the toy on top of her food bowl. Why doesn't she just use her mouth to pick it up and place it on the bowl? Silly dog!
