Kenzie is very cute. When I first saw his face, except for color, I thought he looks like my Duke; profile and expression. Their muzzles are bit long and have the same shape. These are very nice pictures. Glad you shared - thanks. I'm sure Duke is a mix, and no dog smell with him either. A double blessing!

This probably won't help, but Deke is really short for Zindeku it means "protective charm" in swahili. Thats not his registered name. His name describes his personallity now, but not when he was a puppy. He grew into it.

<> Funny...I feel the same way about open wheel racing...but L-O-V-E NASCAR. I had never even seen a race on TV until I met my DH. He has been a Rusty Wallace fan since the late eighties. When I first found out he liked NASCAR (we had been married for a year, he was hiding it!) I was like 'no way...what could be interesting about cars driving around in circles fast?'...BORING! Then after he got me to watch a few races, I really liked it, and when I found my own driver, I really got into it. He even convinced me to go to some races...we have been to the Busch series in Michigan twice, and the two Cup series races, Charlotte last fall, and Martinsville just a couple weeks ago. He likes to watch open wheel racing...but I just can't get into it. It makes me laugh when they so 'uh,oh..contact' when the cars ALMOST touch each other ;)

She is not a barker but does make noises kind of like purring sounds. I have heard her bark once or twice so I know she has a voice but it is very rare to hear it. She is extremely playful, alert and demanding she likes to bite/ chew everything and loves to find socks and bring them to us. She is smart and quick and a good jumper. She loves climbing on furniture. She cleans herself all the time (almost cat like). But I think her size and weight are already what a full grown basenji would be but she is only 5 months old. I know she is not pure bred by any means but I do see some basenji in her. Jo

Nexa is full af. and she is very cautious in new situations. She is curious and wants to say hi to every dog or person we see, but if they approach her she will back away. The introductions have to go at her pace. We were on a walk the other day and she was desperate to investigate a cat laying in someone’s driveway. She just stood there staring at the cat from 5-6 feet away, as soon the cat came towards her she tucked her tail and ran like it was a lion after her. The cat might have weighed 8 pounds wet. She is wary, but with her curiosity she just can’t let things go.

@navyman: Right, and I just remembered they do the minpins too! Now that's asking for double-trouble  Yes she does have the Min Pins too, she has "Ace"(Ch. Altanero Barnstormer) that is in the top ten in the country(currently #6). Those things are just a little to hyper for me. I think she has over 20 Basenji's.

I admire the ability of other breeds that can stay off leash and close to their owners in a normal setting. I suppose the traits I love about my basenjis would be gone if they had the ability to not be interested in moving things.:) I know I am not supposed to say this, but I do enjoy seeing my basenjis fly through the air over furniture like little mountain goats. It is pretty amazing to see them indy 500 through a room.

Well I can confirm that the lab and basenji duo are a playful combination. Caesar is always trying to play with the labs in particular. It seems like a likely union. You can look on the Basenji Rescue and Transport site. They have a section for mixed basenji breeds and it might give you a clue what yours is mixed with. A super cutie!!

lillysmom1- we had contacted Keath a few months ago about fostering but never heard a response. Glad to know all is well. Beautiful dogs on that site, as well as your own. We are in Columbus OH but always willing to help if needed.

LOL, ain't that the truth! :D All the pet stores are down on the water near where all the ferry terminals are so the prices are geared toward the cruise ship passengers. We don't call it taxation land for no reason either.

Moves nicely. I love to watch our basenji's when someone else is walking them, they seem to glide along, like thorough bred horses.
