Norm, My b will chew almost anything allowed he has gotten better i've had him for 2 yrs he's 3 yrs the shoes are no longer allowed in the house they go in the hallway otherwise they are his lol any remotes, phones, and anything else that has any value that i need i always put up high so he can't reach it Mine is addicted to bottles if he see's a empty bottle anywhere he doesnt stop till he gets it and can put his little love bite in it lol If he see's a full bottle he leaves it but not a empty one anyways all i would say is just put things where he can't touch them that pretty much the only thing i have figured out that will work with his little addutude and the bolting i got phoenix to wait for a treat before he thinks hes going out so he doesnt bolt unless he sees a animal or something outside other then that he just sits and waits for his yummy lol the only bad thing about it is that i always have treats in my pocket lol :D Good luck

I had never gotten the seatbelt harness 'cuz they seemed like they might be more dangerous for the pup seeing as how the seats in a bar are made for humans. I'm thrilled that they are in fact quite safe. I shall immediately rush to the store and buy two. Luckily the boys have never gotten car sick. Yes! I am Very Proud of my boys. Donge just figured out how to play with the wind chimes out back. He stands on his hind legs on the porch table and bats the the middle part, and enjoys the chiming he creates. =)

I have raincoats on my b's…when its wet...but they have to go out, doesn't matter if they don't want to. We live in the PNW...so rain is part of the deal. They do learn quickly that if they are "quick" with their business...they can go indoors. Get a raincoat for her and take her out. Laugh!

@Jen_westoz: Thanks Pat, Its always a good sign when people are so helpful and willing to send you information about their dogs. Even without visiting Davina I am already sure she is a fine breeder and you've confimed it for me! My originally intentions of waiting a year are getting harder and harder to stick to. If only we had moved already! Well there is still hope she may still have some pups when I am ready or I will just have to be patient until next year. I would rather wait for her next litter now that I have heard such good reports than go to someone i didnt know much about. I think you are making very smart and wise decisions… and I know how hard it is to wait....:D ... I waited almost a year before I got my first Basenjis... Good luck... and I know you will be a wonderful Basenji Slave!

Hi, Lori. I got my Tyler and Zoey from Karen and Chuck (Medfly Brigade) a few months ago. They were there almost two years because they needed to be placed together–and then I came along. Yes--Karen and Chuck are just unbelievable with the amount of work they do to rescue and care for basenjis. It is really a labor of love for them. It's great that you adopted one of their "senior citizens." And for anyone here on the board, they have many great Bs and mixes in Southern CA that need forever homes.

Took Ramsey to a dog park today, first time. He did very well, no fights and there was around 20 dogs there running loose. He did hold his ground with every dog and even pushed the line a little with some of the larger dogs. All in all a good day for Rams! We have never really trusted him or the other dogs enough to take him to a dog park but today we said what the heck and Ramsey showed us that he can socialize with the best of them. Chris

Congratulations on both your kids! They are beautiful. The only problem I've encountered with rescues (I've had 2 B rescues and a german shepherd mix) is that I tend to me too permissive with them because every time I look in their little eyes–I think about the time they had to spend in a shelter. The two Bs I have now were actually quite obedient when I adopted them--and I'm really trying hard to keep them that way :)

I would love to get some Bs together for a play date. I'm starting to think Lenny may only be dog aggressive with non B's. He and Tayda spent a month with 6 other B's and it was fine! Anyone near the Ann ARbor, Michigan area? Michelle

@ChaseandZahrasmom: Thanks BBoy, I am heading to Philly this weekend and thought about meeting with them if they still wanted to meet one in person. Thanks C&Z, we found those folks a multiple B owner right in their hometown, so they did get to see some B's. They have a couple of cats and are deciding whether it would work out with a pup or an older B. This weekend we show in Eagleville PA….......very close to Philly;) :) .

My first basenji would come for nothing. One time when I was about 15, I had one of my buddies beat me up so I could catch my dog. It didn't take long for "Mowgli" to get into the fight, and I grabbed him then.
