Hopefully Babies for Langarni Basenjis.

  • I just want to announce that we will hopefully expecting babies around the 26th June, from our gorgeous Ochre :).

This has been one of the most stressful times in my life :p. Its been a long drawn out process, over the last couple of weeks, but hopefully the pitter pat of tiny widdle feetsies will make up for everything ;). A huge learning curve, and I feel I have been researching 'stuff' for months !!!

She is Australian Champion Wazazi High Expectations, my Ochre, and the sire is Multi BIS, Multi BISS Grand Champion Afrikenji Hot Sumaknight, Sunny… Reds only are expected:).

This is our first litter in about 7 years, and I cant believe how much technology, feeding, medical care etc, etc has changed in that time. I am VERY excited but also VERY scared too.

Will confirm when ultrasounded... Fingers crossed tightly :).

Just wanted to add, that I am not trying to sell these babies, just having a bit of an excited brag really, so I hope I havent broken forum rules...

  • How exciting… can't wait to hear the results of the ultrasound!!! I am guess this was fresh or frozen breeding?

Great lines that you are crossing.... IMO

Well actually funny you should mention that Tanza :D…

Right up until about 2pm yesterday, we were still all thinking that it was going to be a fresh chilled AI. Yesterday Ochre's prog result was 35, and all well laid plans of mice and men were ruined ;), and by 3pm she was at Hobart Airport, ready for a flight to Melbourne. Then at about 10 pm last night, she had a 30-35 minute tie :D:D:D... Hoping for another tie tonight :D. Then home again tomorrow am...

I am really quite excited about this mating, I think they compliment each other physically and on paper ;).

  • As they say… best laid plans.... and we all know that our Basenjis never want to use "our" plans...

Glad that you got her there in time....

  • Thanks everyone for the warm wishes…

Well we didnt get another tie, but that is just how Sunny works. He seems to know the right day, does his job, then thats it :)... So far he has 100% success rate, with his method, as well...

After giving Helen and David a rundown of what Ochre was like, she has managed to make a complete liar out of me . Here am I saying that she is aloof, independant, not at all affectionate etc, so what does she do... Yep there she is cuddled up to Helen on the couch watching TV, with David on the other side giving her feet a massage, AND, she was lapping it all up, thank you very much ;)... Wicked witch ;)...

She arrived home this am, looking great. In her usual fashion, no waggy tail for us, just a jump up to smell our breath, and have a pat... Took Vanda to the Airport, on Helens advice, and while Ochre was a bit growly, Vanda was very submissive to her, and was very pleased to see her, even if it wasnt recipricated :)... Vanda was a little lost without Ochre, kept running to her crate to see if she was there yet...

We are very happy to have her home, safe and sound, hopefully with a belly full of bubbies :D

  • We have just got back from the Vets, after having Ochre U/S, and the Vet was able to palpate 3 and the U/S showed 2-3… Yaaaaay :) :) :)

Im VERY excited, but now its sunk in, Im feeling like a newbie all over again. Its been nearly 7 years since our last litter, (and they were ACD's), so I am off to do some bigtime swatting :D :D :D...

    Congrats - how exciting!!:D

When Ruby was bred 2 years ago, her u/s showed 3 and the vet could palpate 3, but she had 6! The funny thing was her breeder hoped for at least 4, I had a dream she had 5 - and then she had 6. :D

The US for Bella showed 2…and there were four! Seems you can safely double the estimate based on US results ;)

  • Andrea - LOL, too funny. Saba, how many are you hoping for?

  • And with the Ultrasound many years ago with Maggii, show 3, she had 6… Mickii, they could not find any... she had 4!!! however the specialist these days are much better with the Ultrasound.

That said, I still opt for xrays at 58 to 60 days for hopefully an exact count!

    Congrats Jennie, so exciting.
I know how exilerating it must be to know that your little girl has a tummy full of even smaller little girls and boys.
    When are they due?
I know Kylie is expecting litters as well…been talking to her, lots..

  • Rally's first ultrasound showed 4 and she had 4. Her second had 4 and she had 4 but we lost one because it had been stuck and the stress was too much for it. TC's ultrasound showed 4 heartbeats and one sac with no heartbeat, she had 4 pups and appears to have resorbed a 5th. Rio's ultrasound showed 1 heartbeat and 1 empty sac so we think she resorbed one also. My vets have said the most common reason in their opinion for miscounting is that the bitch is carrying them very high so they are tucked under the rib cage where they can't see or getting "lost" as they count and not knowing which horn they are in.

I also x-ray to check the count and the size. L'Ox was massive compared to what my other puppies have been and I am glad I knew that ahead of time.

I start to get pretty anxious after the ultrasound. Happy that we are expecting puppies but worried about having everything in place, especially emergency care if needed. I don't think I really relax until the pups eyes are open and they have their feet under them but I am a worrier.
