Also, Bryan Gregory of Jumoke Basenji had a 5-yr old female to place. Best wishes.

It may mean the dog is not tested or that the purpose of the ad is not to advertise that dog as breeding stock but just to brag about an accomplishment.
As someone who lost their mind and took out 3 ads this year, one that I am late in submitting even as I type, I can share my reasons for the ad information I chose.
Ad 1 this year was a tribute to Dallas, Ch Sherwood's Restless Heart. In the ad, I felt it was important to advertise both the good health that has been passed down to her descendants, as well as their many accomplishments in the different venues that they participate. This was a 3 page ad and included pictures of the 8 descendants that I either own or bred with a short description of their accomplishments and a listing of their health testing results.
Ad 2 this year was a brag about my two Top 20 lure coursing girls and to introduce my young up and comer. It was a 1 page ad with pictures of all three and a blurb about their coursing highlights. This pretty much took up all the space I had.
Ad 3 this year will be a brag on my Veterans. The reason I have not submitted was because I got a little stuck in the design. I have pictures of both Rally and Nicky and a short blurb about how they are staying active as veterans. With Nicky, I also included a line about being excited about his upcoming litter so I did want to include health testing information but am worried about it being too squished. I am still playing around with it and I know that Tony will do a great job of translating whatever draft into an excellent ad.
Hope that helps.
Now if The Basenji magazine can only "lose" my email address until the ads for the puppy issue are due so I am not tempted into any more ad space before then:D

Laugh, thanks.
I just went to a large basenji show and I was really surprised when I was ring side and heard that there are still some "well known" basenji breeders who are not testing for fanconis..guess they are afraid to find out?
But looking at the mag, and seeing how many have the info posted, well, that is wonderful indeed.
I would love to see this awful illness out of the b's in my life time…
Oh, it would be wonderful if it was so...
Course then you have the "hobby, ie byb" who don't care and dont' inform..sigh -

IMO

Hmmmm, I took an ad out to celebrate Digital in the top 10 edition. (#1 agility basenji for 2007 as a 10 year old.) I did not include health info and at that point he had not been tested for Fanconi. (I'm now awaiting results on him and Jet.) I had not tested him because the first set of testing that was done was for dogs being bred that season (fall07) then the testing was halted for several months. Besides, I was in no way advertising Digital as a stud dog. In fact, he was neutered in October. (I do have frozen, but am not offering it.) The purpose of my ad was to celebrate this wonderful dog's many careers AND, hopefully, to encourage people to get out there and do more with their basenjis, even if they are veterans. If you want to know about the Fanconi status of any dog, there are plenty of places on the internet you can check that out - Sally's Zande pedigree site is a good place to start.

I need to say, I do rescue..so am not with the breeder info most of you have on this site.
I think if I was showing my dogs and lines, I would put fanconis results pending, had the tests not come in yet…at least your trying to get the resultls.
But this isn't what was said ring side.
The comment was made, by a very well known breeder about another well known breeder that they didn't TEST at ALL!
I do rescue and I test my rescue dogs..
I guess maybe they know the results will not be good??
What else can one assume?? -
But this isn't what was said ring side.
The comment was made, by a very well known breeder about another well known breeder that they didn't TEST at ALL!So Breeder A said Breeder B didn't test? Personally, I'd do some homework before I'd believe what Breeder A said about Breeder B. Maybe it's true, and if it is SHAME on Breeder B! But I've learned that just because 2 people breed basenjis, doesn't mean they like each other. (And just for the record, I have no idea who Breeder A and Breeder B are.)
-
oh, I have to tell you, the ones who said that that "other breeders" who didn't test, motioned to the other side of the ring, so, I have no idea who they were talking about either.
I just know that the breed club I support, EBC, has a wonderful group of breeders who do test, educate, and rehome the dogs that they breed.
It makes its soooooooo much easier for me to support a quality club with this type of person who is breeding.
I know there is a lot of "dissing" ring side.
Mostly, its just, why did they win and not my friend…
BUT the testing is so important in my mind, that was something I needed
to ask about. -
The advice to anyone that is looking to buy a puppy is that they should verify for themselves on the OFA website that the parents have been tested and what the results are. Everyone should be aware that there is about a 2 week lag between email notification and the arrival of the OFA certificate and about a 3 week lag between email notification and posting on the OFA website.
That being said, it took my over 6 months to get Kinetic-Tanza Soul Delight's results listed on the OFA website. I never found out what caused the delay.
Though listing that a dog's results are pending can be a good idea, especially on the web were you can update frequently. The bottom line is that it is responsibility of the person looking to verify that at least one parent has been tested Clear prior to breeding. No one should assume that just because someone is well known in the basenji community that they are doing the testing.

Thank you Lisa, yes home work is key.
Course you all are quality, so you know that.
Folks who p/u the mag see the dogs, say, oh this looks good and decides to breed are the ones who end up with issue.
Sigh
Nope, I am wrong, the ones that end up with issues are the DOGS, not the owners.
BUT thank you all for this insite.
I do apprecaite it. -

Exactly…. and it is easy enough to check on the OFA site or Sally's pedigree site (of course that is not updated until OFA site is updated). But never go on what "he said/she said"... at least I don't... but there has been much discussion on other lists about well know breeder not testing or doing a questionable breeding with tested dogs... all pretty easily documented on the OFA site. So in some cases could be "he said/she said" with no truth to the statements..... as said, best and the responsible thing to do is check out your facts.
