Hello from Northeast Arkansas

  • Welcome to the forum!

  • We course our basenjis in Lowell, AR several times a yr, there are a lot of basenjis in the St. Louis area, and there was one person on the forum looking for a basenji at Little Rock AFB.

  • @McCannClan:

I would love to just don't have all the paper work. When he comes home we will have the rest. Can't wait really.

Just curious, but if you researched, you would have needed to have the sire and dam information to check on the www.offa.org website to check out Fanconi testing?

  • Welcome to the forum McCannClan, i bet you can't wait to get your new Pup. We are going to see ours next weeks but wont bring her home for a few more weeks yet. The waitings awful isn't it.

Wow that is so cool. We are very interested in lure coursing and hadn't heard of anything in AR. Of course our research has been mainly on finding the right puppy for us and avoiding mills. If you have any advice or information on it please let me know.

We have been waiting for the last 8 months or so since making the decision to really commit to a new puppy so I understand the anxious feeling. Now that it is so close I am almost panicky. What if we do it wrong (by it I mean any and everything), or what if he doesn't want to be part of our family. Silly isn't it. I am off to the training forums to lurk and see what other advice I can glean from it.

Welecome to the forum, I bet you can't wait for that adorable pup to come home…so exciting..please post pictures..

  • We started taking our pup to trials soon after getting him, he watched patiently from the sidelines from age 3 months on and started coursing as soon as he finished his bench title. There is coursing in Lowell at Ward Nail Park on 20/21 March, 5/6 June and 11/12 Sept, bring your puppy out to some of them and let him watch, once he is 6 months or so, he can try some short practice runs, we are always willing to give tips on how to practice for coursing. He can't course till he is 12 months old, so plenty of time to train him.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Everyone is so kind. I look forward to meeting some of you at the course in Lowell. Our little guy is two months old now. I have a few pics from the breeder that I will try to post. We are so proud of our little cutie I really want to show him off.

Posted two pics in the show off section. Couldn't wait for my own pics, but used ones sent by our breeder. Hope you like them. We think Faro is the cutest bestest (lol) baby basenji out there. We know he plays well with his littermates and is loved by his human family including small children. It gives us comfort to know he was loved before he came to us.

  • Welcome lots of fun to come your way. What color is your baby?
Sorry I missed he is a brindle he will be cute.

  • Welcome to the forum! I've just been to the other pictures of your baby. He's delightful - i wish you every luck with your new baby!

  • All lurkers are welcome here. Happy you've come forward. :)

He's here, and we are so thrilled that he seems to be settling in really well. He is a laid back little guy. He cried and yodeled a little when he realized we were actually driving but quieted quickly and slept. We couldn't get him to relieve himself until we got home but he has explored a little, then ate and is now sleeping again. More later.

  • New baby in the house no sleeping nights LOL… Have fun and good luck happy you have your baby home.

Yay! Can't wait to see more pics and hear more puppy-ness!

  • So pleased you have your Pup and can't wait for updates and pics :D
I thought about you yesterday as we went to see our Pup for the first time, another 3 weeks or so for us.

  • Photos, photos, photos please!

Good to hear that he is doing swell..sleep when he sleeps..lol. like a new moma should..

  • First Basenji's

I was so not prepared for the new "mammaness". I know that is not a word, but at 1 and 4 am it felt like it. The first night we were stupid and he messed in his crate. Not happening again. Now I am attuned to the whine. lol
We do have to make him go outside. He really is not fond of the cold. He just shivers and shakes. I feel sorry for him. I didn't buy him a little sweater since he hates his collar so much but maybe I should have done so??
He is doing well on the training to go outside. I am the real problem in that I forget to take him before he starts to look. We we do our regular "walkies" he goes every time we are out. At night we are not doing "walkies" and that is when we have an accident. Glad I am not so house proud as to get upset.
Pictures are happening today. I had to buy some batteries. Of course they died as soon as puppy arrived. lol
At 4 this morning when we were out the snow started so we will have to chronicle his joy in the weather. lol

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

Bungwa has a very dry mouth and I only managed to get a very tiny white patch on the test card but it was still sufficient to do the test with that. It only turns white when it's dry - the instructions are quite explicit. Of course as Pat says it could be a bad test form.
