One caution, the basenji lives up to the name. Ares might be one to stay away from. I am partial to Indiana (Indy) and Alori (Lori) but there are obvious reasons for that.
We let Indy and Lori name themselves
- For Indy I kept calling him names and when I got to Indiana he let out a big yodel so I figured thats the one he wanted
- For Lori Turin went and hung out with her and said names until she jumped up and danced around at Aloria (Love)
Good luck let us know what you pick

Kingsley, what have you done ! naming her after a weapon of mass destruction :D
What if she lives up to her name :D
Think i'l stick to Malaika (Angel) for our pup;) -

I agree with being careful what you name them (live up to it!), and especially saying, and yelling, the name in many tones of voice. I personally like 2-syllable names, easy to say and call out, with 'come_____', 'No ___ no', etc. Get a couple of names you like then see which fits the dog, which they respond to. Then enjoy your new puppy!

I love the name lily. I just got my B mix on saturday and we named her Lilu. A character from the Fifth Element movie who was a weapon of destruction whos temple was in Egypt.
We have a B breeder, here in Aus, who called her little bitch Leeloo, and her reg name is –------- Fifth Element :). Is your little girl pronounced Leeloo, or Lie loo ???

About pronouncing names incorrectly, I do have problems with people saying my dogs names properly, too :p
Saba, is Sarbah, and perhaps thats how I should have spelt it to start with… He usually gets Sabre
Ochre is pronounced O'Car, but there have been so many different pronunciations for her name, I cant begin to write them all down . Again, I should have spelt it that way, so Im guessing its my fault really :o.
Vanda, I dont think you could get it wrong, I hope ;).
Sorry to the OP, I have gone a touch OT here :o:o:o

You might have to wait a bit and see what the personality is like first too - Lily might not work for a strong alpha female but be perfect for a cuddler.

The strong alpha female could be Tigerlily. :D I knew a brindle pit type dog named Tigerlily - sweet little dog

I guess I spent too much time in Japan. I never thought of it pronounced any other way. :)

I think my favorite time is when she snuggles her little head into my arm when she is sleeping on the couch next to me, she did this on the ride home the first day we got her and that was all it took for me to fall in love with her.
