If you pray, please do…..

  • @JazzysMom:

One of my daughter's good friends shot himself in the head yesterday morning.
He's gone. He was her boyfriend's best friend since jr. high. he was only 23.

    Oh crap.

My daughter, who is driving home alone five hours from college today, doesn't know yet and I'm hoping no stupid moron calls her and tell her while she's on the road.

Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap.

To make it worse, the girl he was dating is going in today for testing because they think she has leukemia.

    Prayers, please for EVERYONE involved..

What an awful, awful thing. My heart goes out to everyone involved. I hope your daughter is able to get the news from you and not while she is on the road. Everyone is in my thought and prayers….

    Pat

  • I'm so sorry to hear such a tragedy :( Everyone will certainly be in my thoughts.

  • Oh, how terrible! I hope your daughter gets home before finding out. My thoughts are with everyone that knew and loved him.

  • How sad… but I have been in your shoes... more times than I would like to admit... it is a sad thing... and we never know what goes on in their heads... and we never will.... we can just love the living and support them in their time of pain and loss

  • I'm sure she'll be fine. It's very sad when someone, especially someone so young, decides suicide is an answer. When I was 16 I had a friend who was the same age that came to that conclusion. Very, very sad. Very confusing time. I still don't know what in the world could be so horrible at 16 (or 23) that suicide seems like the answer. But your daughter will be fine. Believe that.

Of course you, and everyone, will be in my thoughts and prayers. The news grieves me heavily, so I hope everyone finds peace.

  • You, your family, and the family of the young man are in my thoughts and prayers…hang in there!

  • Prayers for you JazzysMom too as well as all those directly invovled.

This is such a terrible thing to have happen but such a great thing that this forum community can come together and offer support to each other when needed.

  • I am so very sorry.
Please let us know how everything goes.
    Hugs.

  • What a long night, and I know it will be a long, hard day…..summer, really.

Courtney got home about 9:30, and after initial hellos and hugs we sat her down and told her. As expected, she fell apart but only for about 1/2 hour because she wanted to get it together and go see her boyfriend to see how he was doing with the news. Fortunately, he lives in our area, so I drove her over and visited with his folks while the two of them went outside for about an hour, then came in and we all chatted a while before we all agreed the "kids" needed to get sleep and we came home.

Courtney and I were up until after 2 AM, with anguish hitting in waves. Oh Lord, what an awful thing to watch your child go through. She kept crying, "No Mom, he can't be gone; he's supposed to be at his house waiting to see us tomorrow." It was so sad.

My 18 yr old son gets home from work about 12, and he sat w/us for a while, then left us alone and he went upstairs to the family room to play video games. At 2 AM-ish I sent her up there to lay on the couch and hopefully fall asleep while hanging out with her brother. I don't know what time she actually went to sleep, if she even did.

She has a summer job interview today at 2 PM. :-(

Sol - the young man who committed suicide-- had had tough life and unstable upbringing...long story but ultimately led to a young man who struggled often with drugs and alcohol. We thought he was finally getting it together lately -- he was going to school to be a drug counselor for kids and was working at the county mental health clinic.
I guess his girlfriend had just broken up with him, he lost his job, and his car all within a very short timespan and he just ....... well, couldn't see his way back out of the hole he found himself in.

Of course, both Courtney and her boyfriend are both going through the "if only we'd talked more" "if only I'd come home a day earlier" "if only....."
which I rather expected. To see the pain on their faces last night was incredibly difficult.

How I miss the days when a band-aid could fix every owie.

  • I'm so sorry for these difficult times… you are certainly in our prayers.

  • Oh my, I'm so very sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences. You'll be in my prayers.

I once pet sat for a catoo, a parrot, 2 cats, and 2 dogs in one household. Whew, was that a job of work…mostly the birds. Props to anyone who can do that. Mostly the cats only came around for food, my main problem with the dogs was trying to keep their muddy feet off the white carpet...but the birds...oh, the birds. Could hardly get my hand in the cage to get the bowls to feed them their (owner prescribed) fruit, veggies, and even peanut butter. The catoo wasn't bad, it was the parrot that was very territorial about it. I ended up using kitchen mitts to get the bowls out of the cage. I look back on it now and have a good laugh, but at the time those bites from the parrot hurt! But every now and again during that 2 week period the darned thing would just be cute, as would the c**atoo. The owners said I could even let them out of the cage if we (the birds & I) were comfortable enough, and by the end , we were. It was very neat. That whole multi-critter experience ranks right up there with both a major learning experience and an "I'm so verry glad I had it" experiance. PS: the dogs were both German Shepherds.

@BasenjiDiva: Maybe a sheet of plywood to cover the door? (We put our dogs in wire crates when we leave the house and while they tolerate them when we gone, they cry loudly when they know we are around. I don't think we could entertain guests with their dramatics going on. ) While our dogs like and tolerate our little grandsons, there are times I feel like they need to be separated. Then I put high baby gates up to secure the dogs in the kitchen. Is that possible in your home? It is a bit of a hassle for people to go in and out of the kitchen but it is very doable and beats the alternative. And the dogs can see what's going on. Pat We have this problem with Querk too. He is almost never crated, except when we have a big group of people over. What we have done that works is put his crate in a room as far away from the gathering place as possible, and close the door…and let him cry it out. He usually quiets down after he realizes that he is in for the duration of the party. He will start up again if he hears someone. I have been known to put his crate in the van too, if the weather is cooperative.

How sad for your parish, Joe's friends and family. There are no "right" words to make this situation any easier for anyone. I hope Joe realizes that he is surrounded by love and support and will be able to become stronger knowing that he is not alone. My thoughts are with your community in this tough time. Jenn
