One of my daughter's good friends shot himself in the head yesterday morning.
He's gone. He was her boyfriend's best friend since jr. high. he was only 23.Oh crap.
My daughter, who is driving home alone five hours from college today, doesn't know yet and I'm hoping no stupid moron calls her and tell her while she's on the road.
Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap.
To make it worse, the girl he was dating is going in today for testing because they think she has leukemia.
Prayers, please for EVERYONE involved..

What an awful, awful thing. My heart goes out to everyone involved. I hope your daughter is able to get the news from you and not while she is on the road. Everyone is in my thought and prayers….

How sad… but I have been in your shoes... more times than I would like to admit... it is a sad thing... and we never know what goes on in their heads... and we never will.... we can just love the living and support them in their time of pain and loss

I'm sure she'll be fine. It's very sad when someone, especially someone so young, decides suicide is an answer. When I was 16 I had a friend who was the same age that came to that conclusion. Very, very sad. Very confusing time. I still don't know what in the world could be so horrible at 16 (or 23) that suicide seems like the answer. But your daughter will be fine. Believe that.
Of course you, and everyone, will be in my thoughts and prayers. The news grieves me heavily, so I hope everyone finds peace.

What a long night, and I know it will be a long, hard day…..summer, really.
Courtney got home about 9:30, and after initial hellos and hugs we sat her down and told her. As expected, she fell apart but only for about 1/2 hour because she wanted to get it together and go see her boyfriend to see how he was doing with the news. Fortunately, he lives in our area, so I drove her over and visited with his folks while the two of them went outside for about an hour, then came in and we all chatted a while before we all agreed the "kids" needed to get sleep and we came home.
Courtney and I were up until after 2 AM, with anguish hitting in waves. Oh Lord, what an awful thing to watch your child go through. She kept crying, "No Mom, he can't be gone; he's supposed to be at his house waiting to see us tomorrow." It was so sad.
My 18 yr old son gets home from work about 12, and he sat w/us for a while, then left us alone and he went upstairs to the family room to play video games. At 2 AM-ish I sent her up there to lay on the couch and hopefully fall asleep while hanging out with her brother. I don't know what time she actually went to sleep, if she even did.
She has a summer job interview today at 2 PM. :-(
Sol - the young man who committed suicide-- had had tough life and unstable upbringing...long story but ultimately led to a young man who struggled often with drugs and alcohol. We thought he was finally getting it together lately -- he was going to school to be a drug counselor for kids and was working at the county mental health clinic.
I guess his girlfriend had just broken up with him, he lost his job, and his car all within a very short timespan and he just ....... well, couldn't see his way back out of the hole he found himself in.Of course, both Courtney and her boyfriend are both going through the "if only we'd talked more" "if only I'd come home a day earlier" "if only....."
which I rather expected. To see the pain on their faces last night was incredibly difficult.How I miss the days when a band-aid could fix every owie.
