• Well Pat…you know that saying...you live and you learn :-)! I wouldn't do that again.....it stressed me out! I think since he was my first show dog I worried more then I normally would have. I don't know if you remember how skinny he was at the Nationals last year...and he was actually eating being around the bitches in heat. My little guy is a strange one!!!

I catered to Dakota the last few years of his life...that I can definitely see doing all the time..they deserve it when they get old.

In-tact boys during breeding season… yikes.. there is nothing worse... I don't think that it would matter how much you tried to "cater" to them... ggg... there is "no one home" during that time!!!! And even it they eat... they burn it all off immediately with worrying about all the bitches....

And yes, I know all about "live and learn".... gggg been there/done that...

  • Just because we don't like sweet potatoes that much, I bought a bag of frozen cut sweet potatoes for making sweet potatoe fries. Every few days I will put one of those in front of Shaye and she's in heaven, working on it while it thaws, and when she figures she has been successful in taming it, she eats it right up. She's had anal gland issues, so yes, I'm doing this to see if it helps. I've noticed some of you here on the forum have recommended them for that problem.

  • Have you tried canned pumpkin?
    My 2 b's love it.

  • Mine don't like canned pumpkin, love fresh pumpkin in the fall, along with sweet potatoes, acorn squash, all sorts of stuff. They love yummy baked sweet potatoes, no butter necessary!

Do baked sweet potatoes work as well as the raw ones for the anal gland issue?

  • Hello 'Schouiffy',
I must say that my Basenji (5 1/2 months old) has just started to do so exactly the same thing . Is it cause the weather is getting hotter these days?…i don't know.
Also, i don't know if i should insist on its eating the same brand or just do as 'Wizard' says, keep the spoonful of canned food for a while, mixed with its dry food.
He is hungry i know it..i can hear his stomach growling..
    ouf...
