    Hi, we adopted our rescue dog Bella in October and our vet says she’s a Besenji/terrier mix. How much does it cost to get DNA done? It’s not that important to us to know for sure but just curious. She’s one yr old and so much energy. She can jump really high off the ground. She does bark once in awhile but usually just one loud bark. When she she sees a squirrel or when I am leaving to walk our other dog she makes other crying or screeching noise. She is smart and super affectionate. I am hoping to learn more about Besenji’s and get to know some people here who have experience with them. Trying to upload a couple photos keeps giving me an error message entity too large.

    You can get just dna or dna with healh testing. Just DNA is about 85 and full panel is about 110 from the wisdom panel.

    She is beautiful! She looks like a Decker Terrier to me. They can range from 25 - 40 lbs. Google "Decker Terrier tri color" and look at the images tab, I think you will be suprised. If you read the history of Decker Terriers you will find there is some basenji in there mix.

    You have a nice looking dog, whatever it is. Good photos show that she has a body of a terrier, and the looks of a Basenji in the head. I recommend a test to see what you are dealing with and the expectations you can evolve together. Good luck.

    Bella is a beautiful dog. I have basenjis and a decker rat terrier. She looks like a decker to me. They rarely bark and when they do it is clipped. They howl. Some of them do jump very high. My boy does not because he is a larger decker from original lines. I would love to know what she is also. Finding people with deckers is a rare occurrence for me.

    Welcome to the forum. She looks like a Decker Rat Terrier, as others have commented. They are a specific rat terrier developed by Mr Decker. Yes, there is basenji in there, so you have found the right place. If you do a DNA test make sure that they have basenji in their testing base, at one time not all of them did. Whatever she is, she is a beauty.

    Do you live in the States? There is a new Facebook group called Basenji (North America). I went to You Tube and saw your precious pups. How cute are they! 3 1/2 you are going to have lots of fun with them! Wish mine were young like that again. But mine don't get into trouble so much anymore............except for T, as he's only 8 and will still mess with you, given the chance.

    It's hard to wait but take it from me; enjoy not living your life by the clock while you can..once the puppy comes you will find yourself looking at that clock and setting timers to go out to potty, eating…enjoy peaceful sleep and freedom..because once the puppy comes its a prison sentence for a little while (not to sound like a downer..lol) I was so excited to pick up Oakley that I picked him up a few days short of ten weeks; I wish I prepared a bit more mentally for such a huge event..Oakley was a tough cookie...so glad puppyhood is over! I miss the tiny body and cute little wrinkles but that's what pictures are for!! Lol Congratulations and don't rush it, be excited for it but enjoy the time Between then and now

    Welcome to the pack! I don't see much basenji in her (but then I'm not a breeder either) but she's good looking never the less. Is she shepherd-size (cant' quite tell from the picture).

So, your baby is 4, please tell me that they will stop chewing, and surfing the tables. My Sahara, would be just great if she didn't do this. I love her just the same, but I have lost things I can't get back that she has chewed. My Basenjis right now range in age from 12 1/2 to 15 3/4…. :p They still surf, however they have pretty much stopped chewing... :D But that is just cause they are old.... and the teeth are not as great!

    Hi and welcome! When you let her out, I hope you are out also. Sadly, underground fencing is very dangerous… call the closest 10 shelters to find how many dogs they pick up with collars. They get excited, run through it, then can't come back. Also, while it might normally keep your dog in, it won't keep others OUT. But with supervision, they are GREAT so that they get freedom but you are there if a problem arises.
