    I am long overdue in posting pictures of my puppies, Willow and Kai. Things are going great - these are the sweetest dogs that I have ever met. We have taken them to the park and kids (and adults) have been all over them with no fuss from the dogs. (Why does everyone want to uncurl their tails?!?)

    This is how the dogs go to sleep each night (this is my daughter, Lily, with Kai - her twin sister, Sophie, is cuddled up with Willow across the room):

    We go in at about 11:00 pm to take the puppies for one last potty break and put into crates until morning. It is often difficult to untangle sleeping girls and dogs - everyone would much prefer to be left alone!

    Too adorable. I was just musing the other day that some Basenjis must be really good with kids, because overall, they do seem to love snuggling close. Better than stuffed animals!

    Regarding the bit about everyone wanting to uncurl their tails - really? What IS it about Basenji tails that makes dog-park people want to un-curl them? Not that Cody minds too much, but really - leave those cinnamon buns alone! :)

    There's a human magnet in the basenji's tail that causes a very strong attachment and most humans cannot resist. Having 3 therapy basenjis, I can say I'd never do therapy work with a basenji that can't deal with his tail being touched. Doesn't matter if the human is 8 or 90, basenji tails cannot be resisted.

    She is really cute though I don't see Basenji. Like Shirley said, only a DNA can tell you much for certain.

    The question about the doggy smell is a good one - basenjis do not smell like dogs. If you stick your face right into their fur the comparison is like sticking your face into a nice clean healthy cat - warm and not really a discernable smell. Except their feet. Their feet smell like Fritos sort of.

    I'm originally from California so that is where we got them. I will have to ask my mom if she knows anything about their breeding. They were both over a year old when they came to us. The male was an escaper. My parents had to add an extention on our 6 ft wall because he would jump it. Even then he found a way to get out. We couldnt figure it out for the longest time how he did it. He had found a window upstairs that didn't latch, he would nose it open get on the roof then jump to the wall and from the wall to the ground. The male in pic is prob just sniffing We were working on that bedroom so there were alot of new scents. I cant recall him ever barooing. The female though was very vocal. After talking to my mom, I don't have any more info. Both dogs were given up by their owners because they became to much for them to handle. Alphy the male was a handful being an escaper, Lady was a great counter surfer. Alphy liked all dogs and people. Lady only liked people. But other than that they were sweet and loving dogs.

    We got Killian from a breeder in Ohio–-Jim Edgerton. That's where he had gotten our previous male basenji. We took Logan and Jasmine to his place and looked at several 1 year olds and a puppies and Jasmine eliminated the others and we agreed with her pick.

    Thank you very much for the info. I will have to try the time out. He was crate trained as far as being house broken, but now when I put brownie in the crate all he does is whine.. I do have 2 older dogs. one that plays with him and the other, well he just growls at brownie. The mother that was there when I got Brownie was a white shepard, maybe that is where the broad nose comes in.
