My new ducklings!

Off Topic
  • I'd love to have a couple of fainting goats and mini donkeys as well! Goats are sooo cute! but them my daughter would never get her own place!

  • Fainting goats…..!?!!!
...Id pay an admission fee too see that bunch and to get to hold a baby duck!! I wish we had more farms around here :(
Closest we come is Rehobeth which is rural and full of horses, most of the roads they'll also have a horse lane....but nothing you can go visit and see. Along with a baby duck of also like to hold a piglet--> have to add those to the bucket list!

  • Hope to get pics of the ducklings as they get bigger…

  • LOL baby goats are cute, adult ones, not so much. Been abused by too many to want one. Mini things… lol, my friend had a horse farm and Paso Finos mostly (I think about 8.. she taught horseback riding). Anyway, she bought this mini burro and one of the Pasos decided it was her baby (it was an ADULT), and treated it that way forever. My friend said she didn't think he liked being herded and treated like a baby, but he probably appreciated that his protected his ass. (A little burro humor there.)

  • Donkeys are good protectors as well.

Here are some updated pics of the ducklings from today. They had their first swim and a sprinkler too! The one in the last pic has spraddle leg. I've got him fixed up for now. We will have to see how he does over the next few days before I decide what to do with him further.

  • I have new loves!!! They are so darn cute it hurts…I like the yellow and brown one with the light beak and orange feet (pic 4, farthest to the right).seems the rest that have yellow and brown have dark feet and beaks....he stands out! What's spraddle feet?

spraddle feet is when the ligaments inbetween the legs stretch out. The duckling can't walk because the legs are out to the side. To fix it (hopefully) I have cut a piece of pipe cleaner (chenille straw) and wound it around the legs to bring them closer together so it will heal. Hopefully it will only take a few days. If not, then unfortunately, I won't let him suffer. He probably slipped and stretched the ligaments.

  • Oh no…poor thing...I hope that he heals, let us know his fate...
Who would have thought I'd get so attached to ducks! They're all adorable and hope that you get to enjoy them for a longtime

  • Debra, what a sensible daughter you have! Highland cattle are my favourite breed of cattle. I also used to raise Muscovy ducks with Basenjis - they always got on and used to travel with us on family holidays. Not much fun for my husband who was the driver. (A van filled with 4 boys, six Muscovies and 5 Basenjis and a wife of course!) Those were the days!! I envy you Arlene.

    Thank you for the pictures.

  • Wow! That's unique! Travelling with ducks!

  • So cute! Hope the baby's legs heal. :(

  • He's doing much better. Hopefully, in a few days, I will know for sure.

  • Good to hear, fingers crossed

  • What kind of ducklings are they? It looks like you may have more than one kind there.

We have Muscoveys here. I adore them! They eat mosquitos, ticks, and flies so we don't have problems with those insects here.

  • I have three rouen and the rest are muscovey.

@Janneke: A smart thing to do! I'm also thinking about a kennel name, but I first want a female at home.. It's pretty expensive to register a name  In Sweden it cost about 250 Euro to register the name. I got my name from the 1/12 2010 so its not that old. But it has taken over a year to get it approved by both FCI and SKK (Swedish kennel club).

@Kipawa: Sounds like you will be really busy later this summer/fall. I have seen pictures of the boats that people live on in the Netherlands - it looks like quite an interesting lifestyle. I assume your basenjis are fine with it. Good luck in finding your special cat. :) There are two types of living on a boat :) People that live on a boat that can't sail anymore. (they put it in a harbor and live there) We live on a ship (we can't call it a boat  ) that sails every day. We load our ship with material (like corn or coils of steel) and sail untill we are at the place to unload. We load the same weight that 40/45 trucks can load ;) It's a weird lifestyle, every night we walk the doggies on a different spot and every day they meet new dogs and people.. And we are always at home with them.. that's a great thing!

There is someone right down the road from us who owns two minipins - my b's get along just great with those dogs, so AJ probably will be happy with a new playmate!
