@yodelma Yes, the information about the flu coming in from imported dogs was alarming. What struck me was that the dogs (in question) were properly vetted and quarantined - and they still missed it. Perhaps the receiving vets weren't informed from the sending vets (beware: potential flu carriers)...
Need some options on this one !

You can get cut out cats with shiny eyes, think they are made of metal and put a couple on the fence. The theory is other cats wont approach them as they think these cats own the territory. I know someone nearby has one on their lawn.
Its a tricky one as outside cats are free agents, we have next doors cat to wind our dog up, he comes across the bungalow roof and i swear he is laughing at Max when he gets agitated:). -
I'm not sure who owns them I see them next door in the yard but i know the person that lives there doesnt come out to often so not sure if they have taken up home in his backyard or that there his and he doesnt mind them outside . There's alot of dogs in the area so if it where me i wouldn't feel comfortable having them outside to many things that would happen to them. anyways i didn't even think of the tack strips Do u nail them into the fence ?? or just lay them ontop i just don't want them to blow off and then my dogs get them in there feet .
We nailed them on the top of the fence… LOL we also put them under the SOD on the front lawn one year because the coons kept "rolling" up the new SOD every night... nothing like having a brand new lawn "rolled" out... only to find it rolled back up the next morning... carpet tack strips worked great for that too....

I did some more searching, and came across what the plant Catnip does. This is a real weird plant…at least for cats.
Have a look, pretty interesting. It's like a drug to them.
So if you plant it somewere away from your fence you will without a doubt get rid of them from your fence. However, it will attract MORE cats to your area...maybe plant one 10 meters away or something?

I tried the lemon spray on my fences (chain link) - it helped with the young cats but the old toms didn't care. I sprayed them with the hose on high power and that helped.

Because I have owned cats all my life, I believe those cats know exactly what they are doing. They are taunting your dogs, because that's fun for them. The dogs may come close, but I would be really surprised if a cat ever got grabbed. I presently have a cat who is 15 years old and suffering with kidney problems - she has terrorized my 7 month old female Basenji, who has always tried to get her to play or just "get" her, and my B has cat scars to show for it. Finally, in the past couple weeks, the "leave it" command is working - but mainly she has learned to give the cat wide berth. I know Basenjis hunt small animals including cats, but the fence-walkers are sure footed and quick enough to jump the other way if the dogs come close.

We also have a 15 year old cat or will be next month. Jaycee knows that Sir Duke means business. Your correct I also 2nd about a cat being sure footed.

LOL…don't you wish in a way that you actually saw them do it. I bet it would be funny to watch.

We used to have a beautiful persian in the neighborhood who walked the fence top, as well as back and forth outside the chain link, dragging his tail across it to torment the dogs (our first basenjis, back in the 70s) One day I found that cat dead in the middle of our back yard. No wound I could find, just dead. I think Pete must have gotten revenge for the taunting. I always felt bad about that beautiful cat.

Ya thats what i though about "well the cats should be able to jump over real quick so they will be fine" Thats till when i let them out all 3 of them charged the fence with phoenix and cheyanne hitting it and Aspen doing the highest jump i have ever seen him do it got up to the top of the fence not over but enough where his nose hit the cat and LUCKLY pushed it back on the other side of the fence . So either they are not as fast or there alittle " Special" cuz u would think 3 dogs charging at u they would move but nope . I got a super soaker today so we will try that tommrow And i am still keeping that tack mat in mind . I'm gonna be known as the crazy keeping the cats out of her yard lady soon LOL i will be back there in my rambo jear with a super soaker. tacks on the fence and a spray in my other hand LMAO {i just pictured that } LMAO

Maybe, but I'm not so convinced. You'd think the cat around here would not have run up the light pole and got stuck there a second time. I think he spent about 3 days up there each time.

Honestly.. we have seen them do it.. it is totally amazing… the kids would wake us up in the middle of the night in the summer when the windows are open.. they got the "smell" of the coon.... and would go nuts.... it was totally amazing... (but really "pissed" us off")...gggg

Too funny, makes me laugh just thinking about this - oh, and I can imagine how pissed I'd be if I had to lay out my lawn more than once because of it. :D:eek:

Tayda and Lenny have caught a cat in my fenced backyard before… and a rabbit.

I found this formula in a "household tips" book by a guy named Haley.
1 gallon water
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1/4 cup Tabasco sauce
mix and spray affected area - i.e. the top of the fence
I had a Sheltie next door that used my side yard for a bathroom constantly. Bad enough to have to pick up after my own dog before grass-cutting let alone the neighbor's too. A different neighbor told me that the Sheltie had been trained to do that B4 I bought the house. Anyway, it worked great!! I just used a regular watering can to put it down rather than buy a sprayer. It didn't effect the grass at all and, according to the book, should work on a multitude of "lawn loiterers".

Sorry, Arleigh just decided he'd put in his "2 cents" but I guess he's adjusting for inflation!! Should've hit "submit" B4 I put the keyboard down, it's a cordless and we're sitting on the couch together!!:D
